I get up early every morning, and practically the first thing I do is check the news to see if our ghastly president is dead yet. I have high hopes that sometime in the near future he’s going to suffer a miserable painful death (or a quick painless one, I don’t care), and instead every morning I discover that he has instead done something incredibly stupid and destructive, and our representatives in government have done nothing significant to stop him. And then I feel deep disappointment.
It’s a poor way to start my day, but it’s every day right now. Yeah, I’m a terrible person, but that guy is worse.
Now I have to go for a walk to temporarily clear my head of all this despair.
I’m probably the only person to feel this way.

I think a lot of people are with you there.
The real difference is that I honestly tolerate people like Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker or even the UFO guy.
And I stoically bear the occasional trashing that that yields. You’re welcome.
There will be spontaneous neighborhood parades. You are not alone.
I have a bottle of Champagne ready for the One Big Beautiful Obit
I want to out live him. I’ll pay for a ticket to p1$$ on his grave.
I usually check Angry Birds first to see if there is a new tournament. Then I check the news for something good.
I’m sure people have music playlists organised for the celebrations?
Prominently in mine is They Might Be Giants’ When Will You Die?
Though it’s perfectly fine to listen to now, ahead of the happy day.
Remember the good old Depression era song Happy Days Are Here Again? Tremendously upbeat!

And the kicker is that Trump, who is a raging narcissist, loves that you care so much about him. Love him, hate him; what matters is that it’s all about him.
PZ, I must be careful with the words I use. I agree with almost all of your positions on things, including your admission here. I admire that you have spoken the unspeakable to which millions agree, for I was admonished by Lynna OM against suggesting, in a moment of extreme anger, that a fossil fuel fanboy meet his end in an appropriate, untimely way. I respect her and her standards for the infinite thread and will do my best to abide by her rule to not wish for the death of others.
However, there are people in this world who have murdered so many and destroyed so much that I am convinced that it would be an ethical act to hope for a way to prevent them from murdering more people or destroying all that is left of what is good and important.
I saw a close up picture of Dumpster “blinking” (i.e. sleeping) at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office surrounded by his kiss ups. He looked quit dead actually, except for his color but that was probably the makeup. He uses a lot of makeup.
I guess I’m meaner than you folks. Sudden death is too nice for The Donald. I envision Dumpster having a stroke or advanced dementia so he can no longer function, then lingering in his defiled wheelchair and bed for years…a living corpse as it were…able to perceive his decrepitude and his total irrelevance as everyone ignores him while he blubbers nonsense.
Meanwhile the unredacted Epstein files are released, the Zorro Ranch investigation finds substantial evidence that he was still trafficking underage women, and god knows what else, and all of Epstein’s billionaire “friends/clients” are exposed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The man’s death is one thing, but far more important is bringing some kind of legal redress against him, his family, his co-conspirators and his enablers – actually prosecuting them and recovering the ill-gotten wealth they have stolen.
I haven’t actually heard anyone mention the emoluments clause for six or seven years now. I mean, he’s blatantly enriching himself through his office, as are his cronies, and that’s blatantly and unequivocally illegal.
@10 shermanj
The Infinite Thread is a silly place.
That rule has a convenient loophole that Lynna uses every day, which is to find columnists wishing for the deaths and suffering of others and to quote them often and uncritically. The sentiment gets boosted, and the person posting has plausible deniability because it wasn’t their words.
You’re not alone, PZ. I can no longer walk as much as I’d like to thanks to arthritis in my back; but I’ll be eighty years old in a couple of weeks, so depression brought on by politics is a good excuse for taking a nap.
I hope that he realises what a horrible mess he is and has a period of extreme remorse.
Definitely not alone, PZ. There’s even an entire BlueSky account dedicated to the “Maybe It Will Happen Today” meme, riffing on the desire for the joyful news.
I’m more looking forward to Putin’s corpsification than Trump’s. Trump has a better-established order of succession that leads to less capable charmers* but more competent executors of a horrible plan.
No, I don’t get it, but a bunch of people are indeed charmed by Trump.
I have a bottle of Delamain & Co. Cognac Pale & Dry waiting for the occasion. There are no words adequate to describe the depth of my disgust with Trump.
Would things be better or worse with Vance in charge?
re robro@11:
I would add, and pisses himself constantly. The Orange Turd would definitely hate that.
A man in Moscow goes up to a newsstand and buys a newspaper. He then glances at the front page, then turns aside and tosses the whole newspaper straight into the trash.
Next day, he turns up, and does the same thing. Buys it, glances at the front page, throws it in the trash.
Next day, same thing. The newsstand worker is increasingly puzzled, but doesn’t say anything.
But eventually, after a couple of weeks of this, he can’t take it. “I’m sorry, friend, but I must ask: why do you buy the paper every day and then just look at the front page and throw it out?”
“Oh, I’m just checking for something.”
“OK, but: what are you checking for?”
“I’m checking for a particular obituary.”
“But sir, you don’t even open the newspaper! The obituaries aren’t even on the front page!”
“Oh, believe me, the one I’m waiting for will be.”
When general Pinochet died I celebrated with a slice of cream cake. When Orange Slime dies, I will celebrate like its 2099.
And I think I am not the only European person to think this way.
Folks on Bluesky just talk about “when it happens” and everybody gets it.
Mildred Bailey’s version (or any version) of the 1941 song, When That Man Is Dead and Gone.
My own hope is that “The Day” comes with a stroke while cheating on the golf-course, followed by an enterprising ‘gator hauling off it’s “paralyzed by fully conscious” subject for dinner.
Putin? Tripping on one of those majestic staircases in the Kremlin, somehow managing to shoot himself in the back with an AK-47 (pausing only twice to reload), before ultimately impaling his head on an ice-ax at the bottom.
Yes, I’m a bad person, why do you ask?
