A familiar story told again

The pre-Cambrian animal rollover: A micro-evolutionary event becomes a major macro-evolutionary distinction in 600 million years.

At 10am Central tomorrow morning, you can watch this video about the dorsal-ventral inversion of key signaling molecules in the developing embryo. Or you can watch it on Patreon right now if you’re a member.

This is a discussion of this paper:

Dear PZ, I enjoyed the video, and understood the basics of it regarding embryonic development, even though my level of sophistication in biology is limited.

However, regarding dorsal-ventral inversion, in a societal context, as I understand it most of us humans have our anal sphincters at the bottom, but Corporations have their anal sphincters at the top !

Lobsters being sideways fish? Did you miss an opportunity for a Jordan Peterson lobster people joke or did I miss it?

Also Halibut! Plus Flounder and other “Flatfish” that kinda transform themselves sideways over their lives

Like this example seen over just 39 seconds – Flatfish Metamorphosis – although it doesn’t turn into a crustacean.

PS You do have me wondering now what flavours bacteria have or might come in..
