Even thought the US Supreme Court has weighed in over the past few years with some momentous advances for LGBT rights, some states throughout the country and trying to make life harder for them, as Samantha Bee reports.
Some more news on the initiative to light up the stadium in Munich in rainbow colours for the European Championship match against Hungary (which recently passed a series of homophobic laws).
Regretably the initiative has been rejected by UEFA the governing body of European soccer. The action had the support of the Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder (from the conservative CSU party) and from all German political parties except the extreme right AfD. The action has the full support of the German players and at least one member of the Hungarian team has spoken out in favour.
However Frankfurt and Cologne has decided to light their stadiums in rainbow colours on the evening (though no game is taking place there). German captain Manuel Neuer will once again be wearing his rainbow captain’s armband. Fans entering the stadium will be handed rainbow flags.
