It’s good to see everyone standing up for the honor their profession. I’m sorry, though, engineers—you still aren’t quite off the hook. James Kakalios has informed me of one of your fellows who has besmirched the reputation of the whole lot of you.
Yeah, I know, he’s probably one of those creationist engineers, but that’s still no excuse.
Steve Stanton, the city manager of Largo, Florida, is getting a sex change operation. That news is grounds for firing him. Injust as that is (but so damned typical), I was amused by this remark:
“If Jesus was here tonight, I can guarantee you he’d want him terminated,” said Pastor Ron Saunders of Largo’s Lighthouse Baptist Church. “Make no mistake about it.”
We’re building up a biased sample that damns an entire profession — Dr Guliuzza, Dr Egnor (who seems to be adopting a more traditional creationist stance), and now Dr Keith Holmes (submitted by Transcription Factor), and so many more — and I thought maybe I should correct that by inviting everyone to name M.D.s and other health care professionals who are not creationist loons. I suspect the majority of doctors (and engineers!) are sensible, intelligent, educated people who have no problem with good science and think creationism is crackpottery.
Let’s have an open thread where the doctors and health care professionals and engineers can proudly deny the creationist spirit. Think of it as a reference and reality check next time someone feels like groaning over yet another creationist M.D.

I hadn’t been paying any attention to the weather reports lately — in the Spring we only have to worry about tornadoes, usually, and the predictions for those are mostly useless — so I hadn’t expected Winter to be reborn. We’ve got 5 or 6 inches of snow out there, with a couple more on the way. And everything had been so naked and brown just yesterday!
Those wicked farkers have taken this charming photo of a clutch of innocent cephalopod embryos and … and … oh, I cannot even describe the perversities they have wreaked upon them.
Do you think if I work up a good head of outrage, I’ll be able to get on Fox News, get a few people fired, and shut down the obscene display? Billy Donohue, if you’re reading this, give me a call … I need tips.

Ridgewater’s Christians in Action student club is sponsoring talks by Dr Randy Guliuzza exploring this topic and more on Wednesday, April 11th in the Ridgewater College Hutchinson campus commons area at 11:00 am and 5:30 pm.
By golly, I am so tempted to attend. The earlier talk conflicts with one of my classes, but I might be able to get away in time to catch the evening session. It might be interesting — this fellow certainly is qualified.
Guliuzza received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and his Masters in Public Health from Harvard University.
He holds a B.S. in engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and a B.A. in theology from Moody Bible Institute.
Whoa. Degrees in medicine, engineering, and theology — it’s like a creationist trifecta. Too bad there’s nothing in his background to suggest much knowledge of evolutionary biology, but that’s typical of this sort. He’s also affiliated with the Institution for Creation Research.
Anyone up for field trip to Hutchinson next week, to spot the wild creationist making his public display?

A lot of people (really, a lot—I’ve got a stack of emails on this subject) have been complaining that their browsers routinely crash on loading this site, and a few have been telling me about other peculiarities. The epidemic struck about the time we added the new video ads.
As an experiment, those ads have been at least temporarily pulled from this site. Now we need some important feedback from those of you who have been having problems.
If your browser was formerly crashing and now everything is smooth and sweet and easy, let us know in a comment. That means it was the ads, and we’ve found the source of the problem.
If your browser was crashing and it’s still crashing, send me email if you somehow read this. Otherwise, the complete silence from anyone who has experienced the problem in the past will tell us there is some other source of the problem.
If your browser wasn’t crashing with the ads and is now crashing with them gone, we don’t want to hear from you, and fortunately you won’t be able to comment here, because that result just causes too many headaches.
If your browser didn’t crash before and still isn’t crashing (like mine), ignore this message. We aren’t worried about you.
If you do send me a note about continued problems, it’s very useful if you include your OS and version, and the browser you use and its version.

Yesterday, the Panda’s Thumb revealed that Michael Egnor had only been pretending to be a creationist. They even linked to his confession at Evolution Views and News. I chimed in, defending our prior work on Egnor’s absurd claims with argument that “the line between creationist parody and creationist reality is drawn awfully fine”.
It was an April Fool’s joke, of course. Egnor hasn’t been kidding — he really is that kooky. Or is he? His real April Fool’s Day post was remarkable in its hypocrisy and religious credulity.
