They get bonus points for reflecting my mood so well.
English lyrics:
The revelry was unrestrained
The hangover is endless
Life is meaningless
The void will get us allHate will prevail
Happiness comes to an end
For it is an illusion
A treacherous pipe dreamAll that I saw
Tears ran down
All that I gave
Once gave
I gave it all to youMultilateral delusions
Unilateral punishments
Gullible poor fellows
The escape will end
The emptiness will get us allHate will prevail
Europe will crumble
A web of lies
Will arise from the ashes
United as oneAll that I saw
Tears ran down
All that I gave
Once gave
I gave it all to youAll that I saw
Tears ran down
All that I gave
Once gave
I gave it all to youHate will prevail
Love will die
Hate will prevail
Happiness comes to an end
For it is an illusion
A treacherous pipe dreamHate will prevail
At the final performance in Israel, they also whipped out a Palestinian flag at the end…triple score! How could Eurovision have given the win to the Netherlands, especially since all they had to offer was treacly pablum?

The official video is good, too.
This sounds like something my sons would have been playing nonstop back in the day, so there’s a nostalgia factor, too.

Nah, it’s Brazil. It’s always Brazil. Tristeza não tem fim / felicidade sim
Or on a technicality, maybe it can go to Spain now and then, where these great kids are. Still, Jobim was Brazilian.
But you could argue for Puerto Rico too. This is harder than I thought.

Treacly pablum winning Eurovision? I am shocked — shocked! — to hear of such a thing.

Eurovision 2011 was kick-ass. They been pretty dull ever since. Just google “eurovision 2011 opening”. It’s the best thing in the history of eurovision and that’s because they didn’t just perform the 2010 winner, they rearranged it and brought the house down. Even the rest of the show was pretty good.Ukraine had an amazing artist Kseniya Simonova, who produced a series of sand art pictures live during the song. Bloody camera kept cutting back to the singer, who cares about her? Moldova was a hoot too. Of course, some treacly pablum won.

Of course Useless Tube had to edit out the Palestinian flag. Can’t have the truth making Israel look like a terrorist Apartheid state can we?
stroppy says
@ ridana: Aye to that!

“How could Eurovision have given the win to the Netherlands, especially since all they had to offer was treacly pablum?” The winner is decided by a jury vote plus a popular vote. The problem with voting is of course the voters. See Brexit, Trump, Orban, Salvini … we got off lightly with treacly pablum.

Interesting read: Eurovision as a (Small) Victory Against the Netanyahu Government
Read for the analysis of how Netanyahu has been sabotaging Israel’s media since 2011, and how the success of the production of Eurovision 2019 goes against his narrative of hate and isolation.
Giliell says
I accidentally switched on the semi finals and was impressed with how much the dude kept missing the high notes.
Hatari is at least tge trashy fun that is the only redeeming feature of the ESC
Green Eagle says
Come on, treacly pablum is what the Eurovision contest is all about. You never saw the Stones or the Who up there.
