The first big news: Sara spun an egg sac overnight. It’s huge. We complimented her on her pregnancy.
Second big news: all of my spiders so far have been female, and I finally found a male this morning. We introduced him to Amanda. Amanda seemed receptive, doing a lot of touchy-feely stuff, while Harry was blunter and just charged straight for the epigyne. Maybe this romance will turn out well. Maybe Harry will be a shriveled corpse in the morning. We shall wait and see.

(My wife is in charge of naming the spiders. Seems a bit friendlier than a code with random letters and numbers.)
Now, to bombard the egg sacs with gamma rays creating a race of Atomic Super-Spiders! We shall then RULE THE WORLD!!!
I’d opt for more of a “mutagenic compound” approach. There are significant advantages to having chemicals sitting in a beaker or other vessel, the main one being that you can tell exactly where they are or aren’t. With radiation you’re just one broken warning light or loose bit of shielding away from becoming the experiment yourself.
Besides, I assume that’s atomic-spider-proof glass to keep the specimen contained and that stuff is bound to block out some of the radiation. (Or even scatter it in inconvenient directions)
Surely the next 2 male names in consideration will be Peter & Parker, right?

In case you were worried, I checked on them this evening…Harry is still alive, although he’s huddled off in a corner, looking exhausted.
