I read somewhere (perhaps on this site) that beetles are the most numerous of all living creatures on Earth. Does that mean that God loves beetles more than humans?

John Burdon Sanderson Haldane thought that was a reasonable conclusion.

And which beetle does it imitate to gain a survival advantage and why?

The mildly deranged penguin says its the other way around. Beetles are imitating this (and several similar ants) in order to not be eaten by roving hungry wild cheeses — these flies, she says, taste terrible and are usually spit out (mostly unchewed) or simply avoided. Beetles, in contrast, makes a nice snack when the cheese can’t catch a crunchy mouse or bigfoot.

What would work even better is to look like a pea, but as peas don’t have legs, the disguise rarely works. In fact, it can rather backfire, as some wild cheeses go all berserker, and frequently kamikaze, upon noticing a pea.
