Unfortunately, nobody who reads this blog lives anywhere near Hartford (right?) so it’ll be a lonely visit. Or maybe I’ll be surprised. I’m going to be speaking at the Mark Twain House in Hartford on 18 June. A very distinguished venue…but just to teach me my place, Dan Brown will be speaking at the same institution two weeks earlier.
By the way, a lot of people have been telling me that they thought this Connecticut professor was me. I like his style, and he certainly is a handsome fellow, but no, that’s not me.
I live in Stamford CT, about an hour away. Will be looking forward to hearing you!

I heard that Katharine Hepburn was from there too. Wonder if she has a museum as well. She was an atheist when it was even less socially acceptable than today.

My brother lives right across the border in Mass. Unfortunately, he’s gone over to the dark side and has become a Catholic (mid-life crisis of some sort). I could needle him and urge him to go, but he’d probably stop speaking to me. Oh wait, he’s already done that.

I, too, live in Mass. about an hour away from Hartford. I pass the Mark Twain House about once a month on my way to NJ, to visit my Mum. Don’t know if I’ll be attending the lecture (maybe!); just had to let you know that there *are* Pharyngulites in the NewEngland area, they are not just in Minn and Ca.
I noticed that the Connecticut professor (Paul Churchland?) who mocks the campus preachers was censored by the university administration, which put out a statement which states:
I also like the professor’s style and general idea of mockery, so I’m hoping that the condemnation was specifically against something a little dicey he did early on: stuck his face a few inches from the preacher’s and forced him to back up while screaming “Bullshit! Bullshit!” Yeah, that was over the line. But the rest of it was lovely.
Couldn’t have been PZ though. At one point you see him telling the crowd something about Jesus being all about love and acceptance.
I approve this suggestion.
I won’t be in that area until the last of June, darn! Going to miss it by (holds up thumb and forefinger 1/4 inch apart, goes all Don Adams) that much.

I grew up a half hour from Hartford. I got to see Dawkins lecture at UCONN earlier this month, and now this? Not sure why I ever left CT.

It turns out that I have a Democratic Town Committee meeting at exactly the same time as PZ’s talk. I would blow this meeting off to see the talk… if I weren’t the Chair!
I’m wondering if there are any plans for an after party or get-together that I might join later?
No plans currently. We could make some, though!
