The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a clever scheme for aerating their babies that involves a little creative surgery on pop bottles. It looks good, though!
I’m tempted to try something similar with zebrafish, just because. I don’t have a problem with keeping them supplied with oxygen, but I do have to maintain good concentrations of food available…and this would hinder more than it would help. But it’s the coolness of it!

Those babies are going to be VERY unhappy when the carnival ride ends and they have to swim on their own.

Oh you little darlings! Coochie-coochie-Cthulu!

Perhaps they are developing muscles by resisting the flow.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is always good for making me clap and go “eeheehee!” This is so nifty.

Please use “soda” not “pop”.
Thank you,

Man, I miss living in the Monterey area!
I loved visiting that aquarium, especially the jellyfish rooms.
The jellyfish are in softly and multicolored lighted displays and soft music is playing.
The jellyfish appear to dance to the music, and it is a delightful and soothing place to just sit, rest and enjoy.
The other thing that I love there is to simply sit outside on the deck to watch the ocean. There are usually a few sea lions playing on the rocks nearby and sometimes I would get lucky and see a sea otter floating around as he nibbled on his latest catch.
I love that area! That’s where we WILL retire, and I can’t wait!

It’s “pop”, you weird alien unAmerican babblers. Soda is something you use in baking.

@5:
I propose we merge our respective territories into the Kingdom of Soda Pop and devote our efforts to the destruction of the land where heathens use the generic term “coke” for all things fizzy.

PZ, you should see the entrance to the MBA Deep Ocean area. A school of sardines circles over your head like a river of silver. Very hypnotic.
JJ831 says
Love the MBA, and the bay in general! I might have to go out there this weekend.

Is this presentation really a dignified environment for one’s precious charges? Or is it rather just a kind of homo sapient art?

Soda? Which rest of America is asking? :p And of course, there is the observation that nich made. Nich beat me to it.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is so very cool.
Lars says
Soda? Pop??? PZ: You’re a post-Norseman, aren’t you? The word is brus. (It’s pronounced somewhat like bruise, but for perfect pronounciation, the r should be an alveolar tap, or optionally a guttural).
This info brought to you from outer space.

JJ831 – I’m jealous!
We lived in Ft. Ord, so I was spoiled and was able to go to MBA anytime that I wanted.
Now I’m stuck in Texas, and I want to go back!

If you should happen to ask someone who lives in the place where English was invented, you might find that it is called a ‘fizzy drink’. Of course this is the same place where they use the term ‘drink driving’ so maybe they aren’t the best authority.
Meanwhile, the Laughing Squidly One has the information you might not have known you needed to know about what Americans call expensive carbonated water.
JohnnieCanuck says
And what’s with Milwaukee? That’s a lot of sodamites there, all by themselves.

Until you Limeys realize that ‘R’ is NOT a silent letter, I refuse to accept grammar lessons from you.

In the Southern Antipodes it is neither soda nor pop. It is, and always will be, ‘soft drink’ (don’t ask me why; I assume to differentiate it from ‘hard liquor’ which is NOT how Australia has ever referred to alcohol!)
spamamander, internet amphibian says
The carbonated beverage is called “pop”. It comes in cases (24 cans) or half-racks (12 cans). Also, batter-fried potato wedges are called “jo-jos”. It’s is not crawdad, crayfish, or crawfish, it’s “ewww wtf you’re eating a bug!”
