PatrickG posted this deep in the Lounge, where only the bravest, thickest-skinned hordelings venture. So I’m amplifying his signal.
my partner is relentless. She keeps saying things like “you always talk about this site and how they’re so supportive of abortion rights, HIT THEM UP!”. And by hit you up, I mean it’s Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon time! Technically, has been for some time. :)
So! If you’re interested in funding abortion rights in Kentucky, specifically through the Kentucky Support Network, consider wandering over here and chipping in a few dollars. Our team is aiming to raise a measly $500, and we’re almost there. :)
Abortion access in Kentucky is a particular issue for me — we’ve got a part-time clinic in Lexington, a full-time clinic in Louisville… and that’s pretty much IT. Louisville has a hospital under siege by Catholics (gubernatorial action was necessary to prevent the latest merger attempt), and there’s basically nothing in northern/eastern Kentucky. They all have to travel. Added bonus (bleh): the Louisville site is heckled by protesters non-stop. In short, we might not be Mississippi or North Dakota, but we’re getting there.
All the funds raised for KSN go directly to transportation, housing, and medical expenses. Administrative funds are raised strictly through grants.
If you’d prefer to chaff my hide, consider donating to my partner’s page here**. She’d be thrilled to receive donations instead of me — my own father donated in her name instead of mine! But wherever you donate, it goes to the same place – the Kentucky Support Network.
You know what to do.
Mattir, Another One With Boltcutters says
Awesome. And thanks.
Jadehawk says
ha! that should get you plenty of Hordeling money :-p
not mine though, cuz as soon as March payments come in, I’m giving them to the ND Bowl-A-Thon for our last clinic.
good luck PatrickG!
ftltachyon says
But we don’t know what to do! Do we donate via PatrickG’s page or his partner’s????
Socio-gen, something something... says
Taking a quick minute to offer a cyber high-five to you and your partner, PatrickG! My team, the Vagina Warriors, are bowling for the ND Women in Need fund. [ hint hint, Jadehawk. :) ]
Chris Clarke says
PatrickG’s way ahead. Help his partner catch up.
thebookofdave says
I’m in. Balls to the wall!
Jadehawk says
oh man, if i’d known, I’d have probably asked to join :-p
my secret dream is to manage to get an A+ bowling team together one year.
ButchKitties says
Donated. And I kinda love the team name.
Wren, a Tru Hoppist says
Oh Chris, thanks for posting this! I live in Northern KY and I haven’t been able to find a clinic up here at all so I can volunteer as an escort (my google-fu is weak, though).
I donated to PatrickG’s partner, and if I have a weekend free, I may be able to volunteer soon and drag my P.E.L.P. along with me!
Jackie, Ms. Paper if ya nasty says
Thanks Chris! Best of luck to Patrick G. and partner.
brucecoppola says
Just chaffed PatrickG’s hide, and I think his partner Ace Baller (love the name) has now reached her goal.
Our Republitards are doing their worst here in MI to futher the war on women. Sigh…this used to be a civilized state. We may need your help soon ourselves.
Lynna, OM says
I posted this previously in the [Lounge], but it belongs here, as an example of anti-abortion tactics in other states.
raven says
The abortion causes breast cancer link isn’t controversial.
It’s is simply a lie.
They are mandating that MD’s lie to their patients.
David Marjanović says
“And now, ma’am, I’m legally required to lie to you: I’m required to pretend that abortion causes breast cancer – even though a bunch of studies has shown it doesn’t. So, listen up: Abortion totally causes breast cancer. *nodnod* Thank you for listening.”
Christ, what assholes.
PatrickG says
Wow! Thanks so much Chris for giving this more attention, and thanks so so so much to all the people who have donated. The response has been overwhelming, and on behalf of the Kentucky Support Network (of which I’m not actually a spokesperson)… THANK YOU!
The money donated will make such a huge difference in the lives of Kentucky women. From the bottom of my jaded, cynical heart… thank you again!
PatrickG says
@ Wren: If you live in Northern Kentucky, KSN might well have a place for you to volunteer, especially if you can provide transport for people in the area. If not, there’s always need for volunteers to check the hotline. You can find our horrible website* at kentuckyhealthjusticenetwork.org.:)
Escorting services are only really needed in Louisville, as the Lexington clinic sits safely protected on private property with a “buffer” parking lot. Trespassing laws can be invoked. The Louisville clinic, otoh, fronts onto a public sidewalk. It’s a long way for you, but check out everysaturdaymorning.org for more information on clinic escort volunteering.
* I can say that because the horribleness is my product. I haven’t deployed the actual better version yet at khjn.org. This was a temporary site thrown up in a hurry that’s become a bit too permanent for my taste.
Wren, a Tru Hoppist says
@ PatrickG,
Transporting people to Louisville might actually be better. I’m glad there are other options than just being an escort. My husband is not sure how he’d handle the antis and wants to avoid conflicts. I’ll checkout the horrible website with him after work. :D
ImaginesABeach says
I’m lousy at making decisions. I gave to PatrickG’s team and partner’s team and Socio-gen’s team. Thanks for doing this.
Socio-gen, something something... says
Thank you, ImaginesABeach!!
PatrickG says
Indeed, thank you ImaginesABeach and everyone else! Our team (Uterine Linings Playbook) has far surpassed our modest goal of $500, and it’s all thanks to the people here (and Chris, for promoting my humble lil post).
Of course, don’t let our success deter you from donating more, to any of our teams! ;)
PatrickG says
@ Wren: I hear your husband’s concerns. I looked briefly into being an escort, and quickly realized that my passionate tendencies* was … probably not the best thing to bring to a such an endeavor.
The contact for volunteer opportunities is under either the Need Help? or Donate pages, by the way. It’s a small site, shouldn’t be too hard to find. :)
* AKA getting really fucking pissed off at self-righteous assholes poking their noses into other people’s personal health decisions
loopyj says
Thank you for posting this. I never venture into the lounge, for I am a delicate flower.
I’ve made a donation to Uterine Linings Playbook. I really appreciate and admire the personal commitment that so many Americans make to supporting women’s access to healthcare. It breaks my heart when I hear about yet another state’s last clinic providing abortion services facing closure or yet more laws designed to make a woman’s access to abortion services more expensive, more time-consuming, and often simply impossible.
CSB says
And I just excommunicated myself from the Roman Catholic Church.
Kind of wish I could have done it by punching out Ratzinger back when he still had the position, but at least this was less expensive than flying to Rome.
Crip Dyke, MQ, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden says
All right. This is ridiculous. It took me until now, when I was scrolling through and caught a glance of this headline, to realize
“strike against denial of abortion”
is a F’n **bowling pun**.
