Origami: Practical Bookmark

Practical Bookmark, designed by me

Here’s a really old design of mine, back in 2013.  I wanted a simple origami bookmark–no frills, just mark my page please.  Some origami bookmarks stick out of the book, and that’s obviously not practical if I’m throwing the book in my bag or something.

There’s another simple popular design, but I have a tiny little complaint about it.  In the inside corner of the model, where the page corner goes, it’s easy to get imperfections, little wrinkles in the paper.  And I don’t like treating my books that way.  So I carefully designed this bookmark so that even if you fold it sloppy it doesn’t have that problem.

However, since my bookmark is square, it might cover more of the text.  And it is a bit harder to fold.

I’ve never publicly shared diagrams of this model before, but I habitually sketch them out for myself.  No these aren’t the original diagrams from 2013.  The 2013 diagrams are decent but I decided I could do better today, so I cleaned them up a bit.

If you’ve been wondering what the book is in the photo, I’m pretty sure it’s The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood.
