Sorry to be late posting our walk today, but I spent the afternoon at my dentist’s office waiting for him to squeeze me in. It seems I’ve developed an abscess in a lower tooth that’s going to require a root canal, but first I’ll need to take a course of antibiotics. Ugh. The day itself was a bit grim as well with gloomy, overcast skies and a bitterly cold north wind. It even started to snow a few times, but thankfully only a few brief flakes that didn’t last. I feel like it’s Groundhog Day and winter is stuck on repeat. Again, Ugh.

Hoping the antibiotics will bite and you’ll get to the root canal quickly. It’s gloomy and overcast here as well and it was very windy yesterday, however it’s “warm” (above zero) and the sea ice is on the way out.
On Friday, one of the carpet washing jetties of Helsinki (more precisely, the one in Merihaka*) went floating away along with the ice. A coast guard boat had to tow it back to the shore.

* = Merihaka is sometimes called the Manhattan of Social Democrats, it was home to some of the SDP politicians and it was built by the construction company Haka, which had close ties to Social Democrats.

I don’t know if you’ve had previous root canals, but if not, you shouldn’t feel too concerned about it. I’ve had several and they’re not nearly as traumatic or painful as their reputation would suggest. In fact, a couple of them were blessed relief at the time, and not particularly difficult to recover from.
They can be expensive, though, especially when you consider that most are followed by a crown. So, another kind of pain, but maybe that’s different in the Great White North.
Now, if you want to talk about apicoectomies, they’re a whole other kettle of wax.

I hope the anitbiotics kick in quickly, I also hope the root canal and the subsequent work go well.
For me it was the permanent filling the hole after the root canal that hurt, my dentist did it on a Friday, I suspect because he knew that the pain would be gone when I woke up on Monday morning! On the other hand that was before I had my current pain problem and I honestly don’t think I’d find the pain half as bad now, but it is difficult to remember pain accurately so I may be talking rubbish.
