Taste of Cinema has an article up: 20 Weird Movies from the Last Decade No One Talks About.
It’s a very interesting look at movies, lots of stuff I’ve managed to miss, being under my rock. Go have a look, and if you’re a cinephile, see how you rate on this list of neglected cinema!

Speaking of “odd” movies, a mainstream French steampunk-ish release from 2010, Les Aventures extraordinaires d’Adèle Blanc-Sec, seemed to sink without trace despite getting quite good reviews. I call it “odd” because if you don’t realise it is a motion picture in the style of old-style action / adventure comics, you’re going to be going “WTF?! No way!” all though the movie: An impossible story and plot, impossible incidents and subplots, and all over-the-top.

It’s not just you and your rock, this list came up when googling ‘weird movies’ because I was looking for something to watch on Saturday night. I expected something along sci-fi lines, because that’s what I was hoping for. God a lot more than I bargained for (not that I’m complaining)!

rq, I just posted the full film of one mentioned, Bobby Yeah. Thanks so much for this, because I would have never known, and that’s one of the weirdest fucking things I’ve ever seen.

Also, there has been a remarkable amount of people clicking over. :D

Also came across an old (okay, fine, 1988) Czech stop-motion version of Alice in Wonderland that is both delightful and creepy as all fuck (trailer). But between this list and The Sandman short I was sent a few years ago by a friend, I feel sufficiently creeped out.
Also you’re welcome. :) Wasn’t at first sure if it was something that might interest, but it seemed like something right up your alley. :) (And yeah, I saw Bobby Yeah, and, well, yeah…)

Sorry, Polish! Should have caught that. It has dolls in it.

Hahahahahahahahaha. Yeah, it’s not easy to put a simple descriptor on it. The one thing that sticks is the expression on the little thug’s face when confronted with a red button. The whole expression, the body movements, they are so perfect! The whole internal discussion of ‘should I or shouldn’t I’ is absolutely wonderful.
And I about fell over laughing when the guillotine showed up. :D
Caine says
Ohhh, going by the comments, Alice is on netflix, I’ll be watching!
rq says
It didn’t feel right to laugh, but I did, too. :D
The red button is the perfect hook, you watch that, you can’t stop!
Caine says
Oh, and speaking of weird flicks, you have seen Otesanek (Little Otik), right? That is one weird effing movie.
rq says
Nope, but it is on the list now, for when Husband and the kids leave me to my overtime again (he’s not so into the weird). Thanks for the recommendation!
