Notes on Hypnosis – 1 Framing

First: a cloud of disclaimers and protective exposition. A lot of this is going to be my opinion, and it probably disagrees with many practitioners’. Take that into account.  Also, please remember that I am deeply skeptical about a lot of popular psychology, and attempts to explain hypnosis often lean heavily, perforce, on nebulous pop psychology concepts such as “peer pressure.” For the sake of keeping this readable and tolerable I am not going to fill my writing with skeptical bafflegab about pop psychology bafflegab, other than to note here that hypnosis is full of bafflegab. In other words, I’m asking you to be prepared, if you challenge me in the comments, “that sounds like bullshit!” for me to reply “yup, but it’s not my bullshit.”

The Monday State of Play

Schedules have been squishing around, here. Q was planning on showing up next week but was free now, so he arrived last night. I had a beer and he fried some fungus [chicken of the woods] he picked up in Moshannon state park and we schemed a bit. Having had the experience of nearly crapping myself to death after eating a wild mushroom, I had some heat and eat curry and rice while I watched him prepare his doom.

Endless Beatings

My recent study of labor relations in the US, during “the golden age” (AKA “when the robber barons ruled”) leaves me with a memory of beatings. Endless beatings. It seems as though the establishment’s first resort when confronted is to grab a stout stick, and beat on someone. If that doesn’t work, they beat that person’s wife and kids.
