This is, of course, a rhetorical question. Even though he is always wrong, he gets on TV because he and TV stations know that fear and war draws viewers and he has made a niche for himself as the go to person when the networks want someone to scare the bejeesus out of everyone. He is a like a clockwork toy that you can wind up and get the same result all the time
The Daily Show is worried that he is going over the edge.

Well, there’s also the fact that he’s a powerful US Senator with seats on important committees.
And that fact makes me sad for this country.
He’s on TV because he’s good at forcing other people to empathize with the terror he’s feeling. It’s true. Not sure about you but the mere idea that someone so out of touch with reality is not only a member of the US senate but is known far and wide for something other than his extensive collection of tinfoil hats is faintly terrifying.
*sigh* Sometimes it’s so hard to be from South Carolina.
