Disgustingly racist president says disgustingly racist things

Our horribly racist president went on an ignorant rant about the Somali community in Minnesota.

Donald Trump on Tuesday called Somali immigrants garbage and said they should be sent back home in a rant that came as the administration is reportedly increasing immigration enforcement against undocumented Somalis in Minnesota.

In a xenophobic rant during a cabinet meeting, Trump went off on Somalis and Ilhan Omar, the congressional representative who is from Somalia and is a US citizen. He said Somalia stinks and is no good for a reason.

They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you, he said. He called Omar garbage and said we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country.

These are people who do nothing but complain, he said. They complain, and from where they came from, they got nothing … When they come from hell and they complain and do nothing but bitch, we don’t want them in our country. Let them go back to where they came from and fix it.

I’ve taught Somali students. I’ve visited Somali neighborhoods in Minneapolis, I’ve eaten in Somali-owned restaurants with food by Somali chefs. Fly into the Minneapolis airport and call for a cab, you’ll probably get a Somali driver. I have a lot of respect for Ilhan Omar, she’s fighting on the side of righteousness. I agree with her response to this racist abuse.

Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen who fled Somalia’s civil war as a child and has represented Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019, responded on X: “This president’s bigotry won’t silence our contributions to this nation. Somalis built Minnesota stronger. Your hate only exposes your weakness.”

If there is any corrupt, lazy garbage to be removed, it’s the person of Donald Trump. I stand with our Somali citizens over any Republican sleazebag.

    Nothing new here.

Trump is senile and it is now obvious to everyone.
He stayed up all night posting 160 incoherent messages on Truth Social.

CNN: Fact check: Trump delivers long list of false claims at Cabinet meeting

He then fell asleep in the middle of the Cabinet meeting today.

    Which brings up the question.

Who is actually running the USA these days?
Trump is a meat puppet and I’m sure there are dozens of people fighting over who gets to work the strings.

I am stupefied by all the claptrap this administration does (it starts at the top) and nothing is stopping it from becoming the norm. There is little resistance to these practices, they have established themselves as the standard. And yes, they can go lower.

I used to live in Ilhan Omar’s district (back in the Martin Sabo days). If I was still on that side of the river, I would gladly vote for her. Angie Craig is my current rep, but she is running for Tina Smiths’s MN senate seat. I’m voting for Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan for that seat. Peggy should be Governor right now.

Like father, like son. Isn’t that what you say?

Fred certainly was, so Don Dong learned well. Can’t say about Fred Trump’s father, Frederick. Interestingly he was a German immigrant who “kept a low profile” during World War I because of anti-German sentiment.

Someone should follow up on that and send all back to where they came from.

Who is actually running the USA these days?

Miller for the most part, I suspect. The rest of cabinet are running their respective departments like their own fiefdoms with their own agendas.

  6. says

I have read her words and seen her deeds. She is decent and caring. I stand with Ilhan Omar.
As for the whole racist, criminal tRUMP admin: are they dead yet?

  7. Akira MacKenzie says

Even Dubbya wouldn’t have said something this objectively racist.

Then again, the neocons are no longer running the right-wing roost.

  8. Walter Solomon says

He speaks like the typical white man of his generation. And if that comes off like the same stereotyping he’s doing, good.

  9. stuffin says

@ 7 – Akira MacKenzie – Miller for the most part, I suspect. The rest of cabinet are running their respective departments like their own fiefdoms with their own agendas.

No cohesive agenda. This is how Trump operates, he loves chaos, allows him to redirect blame to anywhere or to anybody. This show is like “The Apprentice” on steroids. And I agree Miller is steering the ship for what that’s worth.

@11 Ted Lawry – Freudian projection! Trump has perfected it. And the worst part, many believe his projections.

  10. zetopan says

Remember, with this maladministration, every accusation is a confession. Mango Mussolini is simply projecting. The worst possible garbage person is calling other people garbage. And to seal the deal, every member of his kakistocracy has been carefully selected to be exactly the same moronic, raving, incompetent, narcissistic bigots as him. The US is currently being led by a feeble-minded (3rd or 4th grade operating level, at best) malignant narcissist, and career criminal who has failed at everything he has ever done his entire life. When young, he was caught throwing rocks at a toddler in a crib. Then, when a bit older, he would show off by riding his very expensive bicycle around the block, only stopping to beat up kids smaller and younger than him. The parents of other children warned them to stay away from the Trumps, because they are mean. His parents sent him to military school, insisting that they could not control him. It only made him worse; the other students once stopped him from pushing another student out of a second story window, because he was loosing an argument with that student. He gained a reputation for viciousness and never backing down when he was losing an argument, not matter how much the evidence was against him. Exactly like he is now. He paid other students to take his tests, even including his SATs. That is why he is so astonishingly ignorant and “impossibly stupid” (as one British reporter stated after meeting him for the first time). He has stiffed and bankrupted over 100 contractors by not paying them the agreed on amount on the signed contracts. In one example, he hired illegal Polish workers, paying them less than minimum wage, who are they going to complain to? And in a final act of despicable behavior, to avoid paying them their final paychecks, he reported them to immigration and got them deported. He has not changed the slightest since he was a young, tyrannical bully. Fake charities and fake universities are a small part of his continual lifelong grifting.

According to the DHS report (PDF):
Somalia is not in the top 10 list of undocumented immigrant countries of origin.
Minnesota is not in the top 10 list of states by undocumented immigrant population.
Could it have anything to do with Somalis being Black and Minnesota being Blue?

  12. John Morales says

chrislawson, I reckon it’s more about his Christian Dominionist and populist MAGA base.

  13. John Morales says

chrislawson, kinda. Both are parameters; black vs Muslim is subsumed in the xenophobia/dominionist frame, but I reckon one is more salient. Not disputing you, amplifying you, expanding.

(More dimensions that mere skin colour and creed, no?)

Seconding #7 Akira MacKenzie & #12. stuffin : Its Shadow POTUS Stephen “especially creepy nazi” Miller plus very likely influence from Vance’s puppetmaster Peter Thiel & others. Its pretty murky stuff though and hard to really tell for sure.

@16. John Morales : Are they ever Muslim as wellas Black-skinned Africans!

According to the Pew Research Center, 99.8% of Somalia’s population is Muslim.[318] The majority belong to the Sunni branch of Islam and the Shafi’i school of Islamic jurisprudence.[309] Sufism, the mystical sect of Islam, is also well established, … (Snip)..

.. Christianity is a minority religion in Somalia, with adherents representing less than 0.1% of the population in 2010 (so possibly outdated though don’t expect much has chagned – ed.) according to the Pew Research Center.[318] The number of Christians in Somalia is estimated at 1,000 people.

..(snip).. less than 0.1% of Somalia’s population in 2010 were adherents of folk religions.[318] These mainly consisted of some non-Somali ethnic minority groups in the southern parts of the country, who practice animism. In the case of the Bantu, these religious traditions were inherited from their ancestors in Southeast Africa.

@10: Hey, some of us are/pass for white men of The Orange One’s generation! And we don’t talk that way. We took our own college entrance exams, and did our own work for and earned graduate degrees, and pay people who do work for us, and… I can only conclude that means we’re atypical.

@6: There was another reason that Friedrich (grandpa) maintained a low profile during that decade (not just while war was raging): He was a draft dodger… from the German army. That’s why he had been kicked out when he tried to return to Germany after making his fortune through rather dubious means (questionable real estate transactions and slumlordery financed by the brother he owned and operated in Alaska…). Like grandfather, like grandson, I guess.

  16. StevoR says

I’ve eaten in Somali-owned restaurants with food by Somali chefs.

Good? Any recommendations or advice? Never tried Somali cusine personally and know nothing about it – haven’t seen any restaurants for them here in South Australia.

  17. says

In Minneapolis, there are lots of Somali restaurants along Lake Street, and also in Riverside, right next to the UM campus.
It’s been a while, so I can’t recommend anything specific — Somali cuisine is heavy on chicken, goat, and beef, so it isn’t very vegetarian friendly.

  18. drdrdrdrdralhazeneuler says

Once again an opportunity for me to show my quality: I strongly condemn these racist remarks, which are also nonsensical.

The sad thing is that Mr. Trump himself not only does not contribute, but to the contrary is a very destructive force, especially against his own country.

Would I teach him better ways? Would I help him be truly successful? Certainly. But he wouldn’t listen to a lefty scientist.

  19. birgerjohansson says

Refugees from different places have very different outlooks depending on social strata. Dirt-poor rural people fleeing religious militias and lacking literacy even with the local alphabet are obviously at a huge disadvantage compared to urban, well-educated refugees.
Having said that, the Somali refugees that come to Sweden generally land on their feet. Herr Präsident Drumpf is being his usual self.

  20. birgerjohansson says

    @ 26
“But he wouldn’t listen to a lefty scientist”.

He does not want to listen, period.
He has no curiosity, and is convinced that his intuition is always right. Because he may be one of the worst examples of narcissism seen in public life outside actual dictatorships.

  21. birgerjohansson says

I unfortunately cannot tell Ethiopian and Somalian cuisine apart, although the geographic proximity guarantees there is some overlap.
    .
I wonder if it would be possible to set up a foundation to help contractors that were screwed over by the Trumps litigate so they can overcome the consistent delaying tactics always used by the Orange One.

  22. says

    Trump is senile…

Who is actually running the USA these days?

That probably depends on a lot of factors, and is subject to change without notice.
