The police just busted a sex trafficking ring in Bloomington, Minnesota — a dozen men were caught in the act of trying to coerce sex out of a minor. Among the arrested was a revelation: who would be the person most aware of vulnerable individuals? Who is normally protected by the police and is able to freely extort and threaten people? Who would really be a great benefit to a criminal organization, who was used to trampling on the rights of people? You guessed it.
One of the men, he said, is an employee for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who could face federal charges. Hodges said the ICE employee works as an auditor.
“When he was arrested, he said, ‘I’m ICE, boys,'” Hodges said during a press conference Tuesday. “Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up.”
It is amusing that he thought announcing that he was ICE was a get-out-of-jail-free card. If I had my way we’d just automatically arrest every ICE officer and strip them of their position.

Seems to be a theme lately where fed agents are acting with brazen impunity and expect their status to exempt them. These weren’t related to sex trafficking, just drunk jackasses getting hauled in by real cops:

I’m sorry, but your joke has been overtaken by reality.
Driver Tries To Get Out Of Traffic Stop By Handing Cop A Monopoly ‘Get Out Of Jail Free’ Card
The only surprising thing about this is that local law enforcement found a line that ICE couldn’t cross.
ICE and the Border Patrol have been violating our laws on a massive scale for all this year. Here is what a Federal judge had to say in Chicago.
The judge says ICE/BP lies a lot about everything.
They also routinely use excessive force on bystanders and protesters who are exercising their First Amendment constitutional rights.
We all saw the news when ICE/BP invading an apartment building in Chicago, trashed the place, and arrested 300 people.
None of those 300 arrested people were ever charged with anything.
ICE/BP isn’t enforcing the laws or solving problems. They are breaking our laws and causing problems.
Here is a list of all the crimes ICE/BP have committed during the Trump regime.
.1. Excessive force.
.2. Lying in court i.e. perjury and false testimony.
.3. Violating our constitutional rights of free speech and free assembly.
.4. Lack of Due Process when arresting and holding suspects.
.5. The legal principle of Habeas Corpus. You have the right to appear before a judge and be told why you have been arrested. ICE frequently disappears people for days without anyone knowing where they are.
.6. Lack of probable cause and racial profiling. ICE just grabs anyone who looks nonwhite and questions and sometimes arrests them.
It’s not a crime in the USA to not look like a white person.
.7. Holding people indefinitely in appalling conditions. Once you arrest someone, you are responsible for keeping them alive. 23 people have died in ICE custody so far this year.
.8. Murder and attempted murder. ICE has shot people and killed people already without cause. The most blatant case is when they shot a woman in Chicago 5 times at close range. They lied and said she had rammed them with her car and had a gun. Neither was true. They rammed her and she had a gun. A legal conceal and carry gun in her purse they they never saw until much later.
I’m sure I’m leaving lots of ICE/BP crimes out.
If there is some way for them to violate the law, I’m sure they have done it.
PS: The real target of ICE isn’t immigrants. It is the US people.
They are right wing terrorists with pension plans.
We’ve never needed a masked, anonymous secret police force yet in the USA to enforce our laws.
This is just terrorism and cruelty theater.

I’ve said it before…
if it acts like a goose, honks like a goose, steps like a goose…ICE just might be the GOPs SS

In a State prison, or a Federal one? I hope more states start locking these dirtballs up in State prisons, where Trump’s Federal lackeys can’t order them released quite as quickly.
@7 Raging Bee
Very carefully worded. I gather that you are aware of this story:
Trump administration seeks custody of imprisoned Colorado elections clerk
“In a State prison, or a Federal one? I hope more states start locking these dirtballs up in State prisons, where Trump’s Federal lackeys can’t order them released quite as quickly.”
Neither. They’d be held in a local jail until their court appearance. Only after being sentenced would they go to actual prison instead of a holding cell.
The report itself is non-committal: “One of the men, he said, is an employee for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who could face federal charges.”
That implies he’s only been charged with state charges hitherto.
I would tentatively agree with John in @9. Maybe local jail unless state conviction kicks in at a later date and if found guilty they go to the big house. Does being a federal employee raise the stakes?
Bloomington (and Minneapolis) are in Hennepin county, so the creeps will go to Hennepin County Jail pending processing and court. No idea what the policy is on bail and sex offenders? Probably a nice ankle bracelet while they await their trial and sentencing to State Prison.
I believe that being a federal employee means they will be summarily fired for being arrested in a sting operation? The creep worked in ICE administration.
The federal charges could be related to the duffle bag filled with cocaine, methamphetamine, and multiple firearms.
@10
YES
As a federal employee, the rapey idiot in question not only faces criminal charges for whatever extortion/sex crimes he was initially charged with, he can also face federal crimes pertaining to violating his code of conduct for being an ICE/federal employee–depending on the nature of your job, you can be found guilty of violating your oath of office (we all have to take one, generally involves upholding the Constitution, among other things, and definitely not violating it, other details depending on which agency). A federal employee convicted of a crime can face termination from current federal position, loss of pension, loss of Thrift Savings Program (the federal 401K), fines, imprisonment (in a federal prison) and being barred from all future federal employment.
When you serve time in a federal prison, there is no time off for good behavior/reduced prison time. Whatever your federal prison sentence is, that is what you serve. Screw around and act out in federal prison? A judge can just add time on to your existing sentence, with no real recourse for appeal. You’re done when the judge decides you’re done.
FAFO
@11 Depending on the nature of the crime, it could range from “own recognizance” to bail denied–your ass is remanded until trial.
Federal charges related to the actual extortion/sex crimes are unlikely and not just because the Rapist in Chief is squatting in the Oval Office; you would likely have to prove that the ICE agent was transporting his victims across state lines specifically in the commission of a crime, not because it was his job at ICE. It’s pretty weak sauce, the defense would likely claim that moving victims across state lines was always going to happen anyway and is part of the job. Also, Cheetolini could just pardon the asshole; birds of a feather may flock together but so do pigs and swine.
Best hope for real justice is going to be in the state justice system. Cheetolini can’t pardon the asshole for state crimes.
@silvrhalide
The nature of the crime is solicitation of a minor. These perverts were all caught in a sting operation set up by the police. They arrived annd expected to be hooking up with a 17 year old girl.
I expect the police have extensive electronic communications in addition to the duffel bag full of drugs and guns.
Somehow I feel even the dumpster isn’t going to be bailing out this particular molester.
@15 Yeah, it’s solicitation of a minor now but wait for the plea bargaining to begin.
Back when I was still in journalism, I was part of a team that covered Megan’s Law. As part of the story, I was given access to redacted pedophile cases. There’s no shortage of spineless DAs who will happily bury a child sexual assault case just so they can chalk up an easy “win” for their performance review. Or judges. Exhibit A: Chanel Miller in People v. Turner as “Emily Doe” when the judge let Brock Turner walk away with a slap on the wrist.
Where are our Democratic leaders? Chuck Shumer and Hakeen Jefferies? They need to demand such BS be ended. Congress by law controls the purse strings. ICE could be defunded in necessary to get their attention. I recently read that some Democratic Congress people have been denied access to ICE facilities. Smuggled photos of ICE facilities show people sleeping on concrete flors with a thin mylar “space blanket” for a blanket. ICE needs a Congressional reading of the riot act to end ICE stupidities and atrocities. To allow this to pass is to normalize such behavior and this camel’s nose under the tent cannot be allowed.
So “local” basically means “state” and not Federal custody. That’s a good start at least…
“Congress by law…”
I feel compelled to stop you there. We are not a nation of laws.
