Zero surprise

Elon Musk declared that Wikipedia was “woke,” and started his own online encyclopedia titled “Grokipedia”. He was probably tempted to call it Xipedia, but decided to use a different ‘cool’ word. You will not be surprised that he chose the easy routed of stealing all of Wikipedia’s entries and dewokify it by spicing it up with racism. I’ll let someone else suffer the task of doing the actual comparisons.

In his latest quest to fix something far from broken, racist billionaire lunatic Elon Musk decided to unleash his own optimized version of Wikipedia, predictably named Grokipedia, onto the world this week. Now if, like Musk’s own children, you’re not a member of the Elon fan club, you can probably imagine why Musk took on this project. Here’s a man who purchased Twitter a few years ago specifically to refashion it into a neo-Nazi disinformation machine (check), insinuated himself with the second Trump administration so that he could hollow out the federal government (check), and designed electric cars that spontaneously combust, burning their liberal owners to death (check). There is nothing this man cannot make cheaper, wonkier and 20% more Hitler-y.

Plagiarism is not a mark of genius, if not being racist is all it takes to be “woke,” shouldn’t everyone aspire to be woke?

    I am fairly confident that Robert Heinlein would not approve of Elon Musk or his use of the word ‘Grok’.

  2. microraptor says

    From what I’ve heard, the entire thing seems to have been written by AI so even on subjects that aren’t part of the culture war BS there’s weird culture wars tangents and straight up confusion where the article starts commenting on something of similar name.

    Elon Musk is one of the most twisted minds South Africa and Canada has produced. That he is also the richest man in the world says something about the world and it isn’t good.

    Google Search:

    No, Elon Musk did not offer to buy Wikipedia; he offered to give it $1 billion if it agreed to change its name to “Dickipedia” for a minimum of one year. Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has stated that the site is “not for sale”.

    He has always hated Wikipedia and would buy it to kill it like he did Twitter if he could.

    The people who run Wikipedia declined his offer to kill their creation.

    If I were to query Grokipedia about the size of Hitler’s penis, would it tell me he likely had a micropenis based on a recent DNA analysis of a 1945 blood stain? Or would that be deemed a ‘woke’ conclusion smearing the name of one of MAGA’s most beloved antecedents?

    Here is one example of what passes for thought in what passes for the mind of Elon Musk.
    He is just a warped and twisted kook.

    White people have a simple choice to make:

    1. Be conquered, enslaved, raped and genocided while being called “racist”.
    2. Reclaim our nations and our dignity while being called “racist”.

    It’s that simple.

    Elon Musk Yes

    This is a copy of a recent post on X.
    Whyatt Stag is nobody, an anonymous white racist.

    What is noteworthy is that Elon Musk is agreeing with him.

    He is an open Nazi and racist who thinks white people are being genocided despite the fact that we all but own the planet earth.

    Ooooh…so per the Groki, the holocaust was kind of an accident. I don’t think it improves the Nazi’s image to say they were incompetent, though there is some truth to that. They were phenomenally incompetent, much like their modern counterparts. Swagger and boast don’t compensate for poor planning, overreach, and stupidity.

    Ah yes, the well known Racist’s Dilemma. To step on other people because in your deluded mind this is okay and an unavoidable part of how the world works OR to step on other people and pre-empt the victim’s narrative by claiming they were awful, hard people who hurt your toes when you kicked them.

    So many bullshit fantasies, so few brain cells to use deciding between them…

    I’m not going to comment on the rest of the quote, but the electric car comment is misinformation. Gas cars experience fires much more often than electric cars in every metric. I will note that just as air travel is the safest form of travel. but when a plane does crash it is significant; electric cars are safer than gas cars, but when a fire does occur it is harder to put out.

    @Raging Bee:
    Yes, technically, Conservapedia still exists. It’s getting next to no updates because Shlafly has other obsessions now, the whole point of Conservapedia was to act as a reference for conservative homeschooling and there are better things for that now, and they’ve got almost no active editors anymore. That’s not to say they haven’t had offers, but after having been burned a few times by people joining as editors who were planning on being parodists, they try to weed out anybody who’s too over-the-top… which means they’re getting trapped by Poe’s Law, that there is in fact no way to tell the difference between a sincere over-the-top belief and a parody of it. Everybody is either not extreme enough to fit in with the people already there, or so extreme they’re immediately suspected of being a parody infiltrator. Internal arguments have resulted in a number of the old editors leaving as well, so… they just don’t have enough people to even attempt to keep it up to date.

    @magician:
    The real reason people that fires in Tesla cars was an issue isn’t about whether or not they were more likely than in gas cars: the problem was that because in a Tesla everything is powered and run through the central computer, if a fire started in a Tesla it was essentially impossible for anybody to get out of the car, or even for anybody outside to help open the doors. So even if a fire in a Tesla was less likely to happen, it was much more likely to be fatal if it did.

    @10, cheerfulcharlie: don’t scare me like that, in the name of the many-tentacled Ones! The Vault is still standing and well. Ouf.
    @3, raven: yes, it amazes me no way that an adult man can be such a total pinhead. I mean, every single time he opens his mouth, rubbish comes out of it. I cannot remember a single istance of him saying something… well not wise (asking too much here), but at least pleasant or even normal. Every single time. Aaaand he’s the world’s richest man. Some things really cannot be bought with money it seems. Like humanity.

    @13, 15
    Does anyone have the actuarial stats for car fires (fatal & nonfatal) in gas, diesel, electric & electric hybrid over the course of time/age of car? Asking because I could well believe a 20 year old gas car might be more prone to fires (or other disasters) as compared to a 3 year old Tesla. Asking because Tesla, as a company, has only been around since July 2003, so how old could any of their cars actually be? Cross referenced stats for MSRP and median income of car buyer, plus number of owners before the car caught fire would also be useful–wealthier people can afford to buy better cars and can afford to get them fixed, which generally will correlate with fewer accidents from deferred maintenance, if not accidental/collision.

    Given the tendency of Teslas to unexpectedly brick at random moments on the road, the cars might not last long enough to catch fire anyway. Tesla owners in floodplains might experience more fires than the average car owner too. “Didn’t catch fire because bricked in busy intersection & rear ended by Mack truck resulting in total loss” might account for discrepancies in car fires between various fuel types.
    The devil is in the details, usually in the materials and methods section.

    Can we stop calling these people insane? If you’re a rich white guy being racist is a perfectly sane and practical strategy in western society, albeit a inhuman, amoral, and evil one. I’ve met insane people, they are not Nazi saluting racists, lets stop comparing them to scum like Elon
    It seems a lot of people are more interested in pretending that these dickheads are weird outliers, not just products of our racist society

    @17. John Morales : “So he’s forked Wikipedia.”

    Not really. Wikipedia is still there and as it ever was. Musk just tried his own bad racist copy of it which I don’t think is going to take off or be used by that many.

    If by forked you mean fucked?

    Um… Read The Man Who Sold the Moon.

    (It’s about an uber-capitalist scaremonging about the filthy commies using the Moon for advertising space in order to solicit funds for a private trip to the Moon; written circa 1950. All very Randian.)

  15. notaandomposter says

    Re “The Man Who Sold the Moon” , the ‘hero’ is obsessed and a narcissist, but doesn’t go out of his way to be evil or cruel. It was written almost a century ago and probably at the time he was “eccentric and driven” …so no, nothing like Elon or Trump who ultimately only care about self gratification and seem to go out of their way to be cruel.

    re Wikipedia: reality has a liberal bias

    Elon Musk Claims Money Won’t Exist in the Future (and Jensen Huang Would Like a Heads Up)

    Elon Musk made some wild claims at the US-Saudi Investment Forum at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, insisting that his Optimus robot would fix poverty, people wouldn’t have to work in the future, and money would eventually become irrelevant. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, was also on stage and joked that he’d like Musk to give him a heads up just before currency no longer becomes a thing…

    This is projection. Musk has so much money that it no longer matters to him. And Musk doesn’t have to work. He allegedly runs multiple companies, but how much of the work is actually done by him? He seems to have plenty of time left over to tweet racist nonsense.

    Latest babbling weirdness from Trump.
    He calls for the arrest of US Senators and Representatives for Sedition.

    President Donald Trump lashed out at a group of House Democrats who called for troops to uphold their oaths to the Constitution by demanding that the legislators be arrested and tried for posting a social media video where they urged military members to refuse unspecified unlawful orders.

    Writing Thursday on Truth Social, Trump accused senators Elissa Slotkin of Michigan and Mark Kelly of Arizona, plus Colorado Rep. Jason Crow, New Hampshire Representative Maggie Goodlander and Pennsylvania’s Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan had engaged in “seditious behavior at the highest level” and called the senators and representatives — all of whom are military veterans — “traitors to our country” who should be “arrested and put on trial.”

    It’s all nonsense of course.
    There is no law against Sedition in the USA.
    Everyone has First Amendment free speech rights.

    The congresspeople are correct, The military doesn’t have to follow illegal orders.
    In theory anyway. In practice, AFAICT, it is almost impossible to refuse to follow orders.
