My mother’s house is now officially on the market. Go buy it! The price is $435K, but if you want to round up to a half million, I won’t complain.
It’s now empty and shined up and ready to go. Look at this lovely kitchen!
That’s one of the last things my mother had redone on the house before her death. She was very proud of it. I wish my house had a kitchen that nice.
Charming 3-bedroom, 1.75-bathroom rambler with plenty of space and a cozy layout! Great opportunity to make this home your own. Home features a circular floor plan, opening to the living room, then flowing into the dining & kitchen area. Kitchen boasts natural cabinetry, large window above the sink & ample storage & countertop space. Back room has tons of potential, use as a 4th bedroom, second living space or even a play room! Outside, enjoy a large driveway with ample parking and a single-car garage for extra storage or workspace. Large backyard features cozy patio. Easy commute & convenience to everything! Quick access to Hwy 18 & very close to Game Farm Park with ball parks & picnic areas & Wilderness park for enjoying the White River.
Now I want to buy it and move in. Not mentioned is that on a clear day you can see Mt Rainier from the backyard, and that the convenient shed is full of spiders. I don’t know why they left that bit out, especially since it’s going on the market on Halloween.
I have lot of happy memories in that house, so it’s sad to see it empty. Go fill it up to cheer me up.

What’s a .75 bathroom? I’ve heard of a 1/2 bathroom.

@1, larper,
Shower, no tub.
It’s a weird, fairly new, designation.

“Great opportunity to make this home your own.” I love real estate speak.
I’m surprised they left off the Mt. Rainier view and the shed. Views and sheds are fairly common in real estate blurbs for properties in Marin and Sonoma counties. At least there are two pictures with the shed. Decent size lot, too, so perhaps some expansion opportunities.

if only… hell it’s probably 2 minutes from where I am now but might as well be on mars.

Looks pleasant and move-in ready. And checking Zillow for the area, the price seems on the low side. Good luck!

Dear Dr. Myers, with your retirement so close I thought you might have decided to chuck the job now and move into your mother’s house. You’d have to pony up some for the other heirs, but the Pacific Northwest is so much nicer than Mr. Freeze’s hometown.

From my family’s place we could see Mount Baker across the backyard on a clear day. That’s from Vancouver Island.

I’d worry about possible lahars from that damn mountain. In the past some have reached the Puget sound. It is rated as the most potentially dangerous mountain in the continental USA.
Then there’s the inevitable huge earthquake from the Juan de Fuca plate, a danger we in Victoria B.C. share of course.
My plan for the earthquake is to die. Being 80 now I will probably kick off first, but it might be a hell of a way to go! Ah, but then reality intrudes and points out that actually I am sure I would be screaming in abject terror the whole time because it would hurt a lot.

@8 Ed Seedhouse — The thought of that damn plate slipping is far and away my worst nightmare. I try not to remind myself it’s inevitable and overdue. The thought of being crushed to death under the timbers of my house, or being shot by hunger-crazed folk from the next town over desperate for a can of beans, is more than I can handle. Estimates are that everything west of I-5 will be toast. Let’s see how well FEMA, if it even exists by then, handles that.

Good luck with the sale. I deeply miss some homes of my childhood, particularly my grandparents and one of my aunt’s. It’s jarring how a place can be an anchor for memories for so long but once the owners pass (or have to be installed in more manageable environs) the house gets cleaned out and is just… gone. Then it really is just memories. So yes, sad indeed, but foolish I guess to try and pretend these homes aren’t ultimately temporary.

I have the same inane issue everyone else has – numerous other places I could afford a mortgage, and thus to buy a home, instead of renting, but then, if I lived there, I wouldn’t be making enough money to afford it, so even if I could buy something some place else, and afford to move, I couldn’t then actually afford it. That and I fell for a… scheme by a company that “invests” money via extra insurance in retirement, which has escalated to a) I can’t get out of it easy without losing what I gain as an investment, but b) I pay so much into it each month that it is literally making it impossible for me to consider other investments (especially a permanent home some place else, via remote ownership). Unlike all the MAGA around me though I am blaming this whole sale on a) the evil corporation I work for, for not paying enough, but also b) my own choices. They… obviously, are blaming it on the mythical “they” that has no direct connection to them, and Kamala, somehow, and are like totally blameless for any part of it.
Its all I can do, this close to the election, to not scream every day, multiple times, every time one of them violates company rules (and is never called on it), and spouts off political BS, or I have to be nice to the moron in line with a MAGA cult hat, or T-shirt (every 3rd person), at a rate 20 times higher than the number of people that walk through the same line wearing a freaking cross and telling me to have a “blessed day”. Double irritation when this is the same person. If I was a more unstable person I would probably be looking at the company “mental health” expert service (which they, of course, only support 8 visits too per year, which I am sure will cure every problem), but I figure it would be a 50/50 chance, even if I needed them, that I would walk into the bloody office and find them hiding an orange hat under the couch cushions at this point. (Yeah, maybe I am going a bit mad…) lol
Thank Zod for video games, books, and TV show escapism… ;)

The hickory cabinets are gorgeous! I remodeled my ex’s kitchen last year with hickory doors, countertops and an island, and it looks great too. It’s such a beautiful wood, and so tough!

Looks like a lovely home. The market must have cooled considerably since 4 years ago. We were in the market then and kept getting outbid by ridiculous margins. Finally found a small cabin with a loft for $500,000 in the Snoqualmie area. Only got it for so “cheap” because the bathroom was completely rotted out and I had to rebuild it almost from scratch.

The house is relatively affordable for it being in King County. I’m assuming the house is in very excellent condition as the price is “low” but still kinda more expensive than several houses of the same size and facilities around Auburn. @13. The housing market did cool a bit and I wish I could remember the recent article I read that went in detail on why. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a mess out there but I guess a little less so. Your 500k cabin would have sold for only a little less to fair so don’t feel too left out.
