I just returned from a mini vacation in the eastern U.P., and there’s still a foot of snow on the ground, and Tahquamenon Falls is still partially frozen. Spring in the U.P. has a wholly different meaning.

Day before yesterday it was sunny and beautiful. Yesterday, I got a txt message from the Pennsylvania state police warning about white-out conditions on the highways. There was a huge pile-up and a bunch of people were killed. Today it’s sunny and beautiful.

As the meme goes, I present the twelve seasons:

    Winter
    Fool’s spring
    Second winter
    Spring of deception
Third winter de tabarnak <- you are here
    The pollening
    Actual spring
    Summer
    Hell’s front porch
    False fall
    Second summer
    Actual fall

It was so summer last week I had to take off extra layers of clothes. This week it’s “California winter”. We even got an inch of direly needed rain on Sunday/Monday. (They said 1/2 inch officially, but catch basins suggest more where we live.) Perhaps your snow was from that system.

It’s gloomy gray, chilly, and breezy today. Being an old man with poor circulation, I put back on to the extra layers. Sadly it’s not supposed to rain more, but at least the moisture in the ground isn’t evaporating away in the blazing sun.

The mildly deranged penguin says it looks like yer on Pluto, probably near one of the heavily-advertised ice volcanoes resorts on the sunlit side. Silly you, the better spring breaks are on Charon. She recommends one of the deeper valleys or fissures, always in shade. Surprisingly inexpensive, especially if you bring your own tent and food (don’t bother will a lamp, stove, or fuel, they all be frozen solid — this is how you know spring might be arriving).

We had a couple of days of mid-60’s shirtsleeve weather, now it’s hovering around freezing and hitting the mid-20’s at night in S Central PA.
But, the weather matches my mood, as I try to figure out life after 40+ years together.

Your climate and our climate seem curiously entwinned, we also got a major setback recently. Quantum?
Minnesota and North Sweden connected through a shared cabal of Yog-Sothoth worshippers?

Like Robro, I’m watching the rain come in and out over the bay here in CA. It’s great to get some rain.
I already have fresh herbs in my garden, and my Calla lilies are blooming beautifully, as is the lavender.
One of my rose bushes even has a couple of tentative blooms.
Just hoping for a sunny weekend so that we can work on the patio again.
Oh, and spiders! PZ, we have LOTS of spiders. You should come visit Monterey!

I don’t believe it. Actually, the spiders have put up a blanket of fake snow to conceal their activities.

I had already switched to my extremely thin raincoat instead of my winter coat and this last 2 days I put my winter coat back on because it’s below freezing! . Wtf it was almost 70F a few weeks ago. Strange weather! NYC here.

Wish I could upload pics from here. Mendocino Coast in CA. Yes, I’m bragging. I’ll be somewhere else next year. No idea where. Any possible continent or even this country, though I hope not.
