Governor Andrew Cuomo might not be governor for long. The New York state attorney general has determined that he was guilty of sexual harassment and creating a hostile workplace for women. Biden has called on him to resign.
Investigators laid out a devastating portrait of Cuomo’s behavior and extensive examples of unwanted touching, including an incident last November in which Cuomo allegedly embraced an executive assistant and reached under her blouse to grab her breast. Witnesses also described an environment in the governor’s office that was abusive and vindictive, with one of the women who came forward targeted for retaliation through the release of her personnel file, investigators said.
In all, the independent probe found that Cuomo harassed 11 women, including a state trooper whom the governor arranged to be put on his detail.
Cuomo has made an absolutely mad rebuttal. He posted a document that includes 8 pages of photographs of Cuomo kissing and hugging various people, including his mother, and 15 pages of photos of other politicians kissing and hugging people (see, they do it too!). It’s embarrassingly irrelevant, and shows that he doesn’t understand the problem at all.
No one thinks it is wrong to hug your mother, as long as she consents. No one thinks public displays of affection are a crime. Were you abusive and vindictive to your mom? Did you create a hostile work environment for your mom growing up? There are specific, verified accusations of vindictive behavior in the New York governor’s office, and that is the problem.

Well, you see, Cuomo is a psychopath. He’s incapable of feeling guilt or shame, and whatever pain or fear he inflicts on people means nothing to him. He totally lacks empathy, and also insight. I can’t see him resigning unless the vote in the NY Senate to convict and remove from office is underway.

How did this guy not get primaried? He’s been an ass for a long time, even prior to these now-confirmed allegations.

He was primaried. He won.

Oh, I think he gets it. He just thinks he’s too important for any of it to matter. Very Trump-like.

Because corporate Democrats were outraged when they saw a progressive candidate being ahead by thirty points and drummed up support för her opponent from the usual suspects, providing millions in fresh campaign money and outright lying about her opposing popular issues.

Unfortunately, A. Cuomo is not an outlier for New York. I recall that a previous governor had to resign under less than honorable circumstances — Eliot Spitzer.
New York is called “the Empire State,” and I point out that it’s not called the ‘Democracy and Justice State’ or the ‘Fair Treatment for All State’ or the ‘Moral Government State.’ Think Roman Empire, especially in the later days. It’s all about getting and wielding power, about getting whatever you can get away with, and that is what His Excellency Andrew Cuomo is good at.
And for all the publicly expressed outrage, I’m not sure that enough voters here care about mistreatment of women (or other marginalized groups) to threaten Cuomo’s chances in the next primary or general election. So why should he care, really?
P.S.: I also voted for Cynthia Nixon.
cervantes says
Spitzer’s offense wasn’t nearly as serious, and he resigned without a fuss. He hired a call girl. Against the law, which is obviously not good for a governor, and hypocritical since he had prosecuted prostitution rings as AG, but the main offense was against his wife. Who of course stood by her man. . . .

Could Cuomo actually believe he’s done nothing wrong? Perhaps it’s just unconscious denial, and not a sense of “I’m wealthy, powerful and important, so I have the right to do whatever I want,” which defines worse monsters like Trump.
The Vicar (via Freethoughtblogs) says
He was primaried, and he won largely because the same right-of-center centrist Democrats who we’re always told we have to support because progressives just can’t handle office and are totally unrealistic rallied around Cuomo and endorsed him, the same way they endorsed that other sexual harasser Joe Biden.
This is just reason number 14548 why the Democratic Party needs to die just as much as the Republican one.

The remarkable thing is (well, not so remarkable) is that he
hasn’t had to “get it” — until now. (And maybe not
even now! Look at Trump!)
Look around you! A great many people in positions of wealth, fame,
power and authority are, if not out-and-out psychopaths (though some
are), then at least pretty far along the narcissistic spectrum.
It’s a prerequisite for “getting anywhere” in today’s world.
A vocabulary exists for talking about this phenomenon these
days (though it still makes a lot of folks, particularly
in the mainstream media, uncomfortable).

No you were told to support them agaisnt republicans not dur8ng the primary where you should vote for the progressive. Of course you wont because progressives dont vote. If their guy won it would deprive them of the right to complain. We cant have that can we?

Why is the political left largely silent about Governor Andrew Cuomo?

With the recent sexual abuse allegations made against Governor Andrew Cuomo
by Lindsey Boylan – many are frustrated that the same Democrats who were
vocal against other political candidates involved in similar scandals are
remaining silent on social media. . .
Why do we treat sexual abuse as a partisan issue? And what should Americans
do if they want to stop the cycle of physical and sexual harassment involving
men of political or religious power?
