Giving up

Yesterday I procrastinated by cleaning up my home office. This morning I’m going in to the lab to feed the little beasties and wash some more glassware. Then I’m going to come home and buckle down to nothing but grading for the rest of my life. It’s all over, I’m resigning myself to nothing but drudgery for eternity. Goodbye, everyone. Time to crawl into the pit of despair and make it my own.

So glad I don’t have a lab class to teach! But today will still be a grind instead of a day of rest, if not so dreary as PZ’s: I need to grade the calculus exam, write the calculus quiz, write the precalculus quiz, write the precalculus exam (postponement is my friend), finish the take-home Portuguese exam (yeah, I’m taking a class), and prep for tomorrow’s online book event at Fresno State’s PBBI [everyone’s invited]. Thank goodness for existing boilerplate that will speed the jobs. Speaking of which …

I hope you are not as unhappy as you sound. Give to get I guess. Mentally and physically I am better off living a simple life in Mexico a lot of the year. Part of that is political. Give to get everywhere. Returning this time will be a real adjustment. Life without real tacos will be difficult!

And that is why the corner of Ford Prefect’s “Don’t Panic” towel is soaked with anti-depressants.
Seriously, this is a job for “strong” AI.

…and then you can add whatever odd things you want to! Whole slices of avocado, jalapeno rings, mango, pomegranate seeds…

Look on the bright side…I just gave myself an outstanding pandemic haircut. I’m getting good at this stuff.

“I’ve just sucked one year of your life away. I might one day go as high as five, but I really don’t know what that would do to you.”

What does the university office look like?

My advisor once decided to split her sabbatical into two parts: Six months at RMIT in Melbourne and six months tidying up her office at home in Canada.

How fast can a US citizen get into Australia? I have a vision of PZ with mask, snorkel, and fins in the Arrivals line,

@ 12 jrkrideau, speed of entry to Oz is directly related to wealth, so yeah nah on that one.

I haven’t been in my office in several months, since our campus remains on lock-down. However, the district chancellor just announced we’re going to have on-campus instruction in the fall. (Yay!) While most courses and faculty members will remain online, several of us are champing at the bit to get back in the classroom in a few months. Thinking of days without Zoom … yes!

P.S.: Procrastination by cleaning up one’s home office is hardly true procrastination. Sounds too productive!

@12 if our already large smorgasbord of arachnid residents hadn’t already tempted him down here I don’t think this will.
