The president of a fake university, Liberty University, wants students to carry guns so they can “end” Muslims before they even walk in the door.
Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. urged students during Friday’s convocation to carry concealed weapons on campus in the wake of Wednesday’s massacre in San Bernardino, California.
Students erupted in applause; however, the remarks did not come without controversy after some felt Falwell unfairly called out an entire religion rather than just extremists.
It just blows my mind when I see that the president of the United States [says] that the answer to circumstances like that is more gun control,Falwell said.… I’ve always thought if more good people had concealed carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in.
I’m trying to figure out how this works. So before they commit any crime, before they draw their guns and charge in blazing, you’re supposed to just shoot Muslims? But how will you know they’re terrorists? Is it just open season on Muslims?
He did clarify, and explain that not all Muslims are evil. Just the ones who shoot people.
I was referring to ‘those Muslims’ that just carried out attacks in Paris and California,he said in the tweet clarifying his comments.
So…we should be armed, so that we can shoot people who are, perhaps, carrying weapons before entering a college classroom, for instance? I don’t think he’s thought this through. He seems to be suggesting that we summarily execute religious fanatics and fundamentalists who are walking around public places with weapons, while telling an institution full of religious fanatics and fundamentalists that they should be carrying weapons in public places.
I’m trying to keep an open mind. I’m not at all a fan of violence, but if the college president wants to turn Liberty University into an apocalyptic wasteland of paranoid gunslingers, who am I to argue?

It makes perfect sense if you add the missing definition, “mooslin ≡ anyone who does pay tithes to Jerry Falwell Jr”. It still won’t work, unless there is something to distinguish tithe-payers from sentient beings. The obvious distinguishing attributes, such as carrying lethal weapons, wearing a Trump-mark™©®, unable to answer simple questions like “what is 1+2?” or “why colour is the sky on your planet?”, and so on, are all easily faked.

There’s probably two or three terrorist cells in different parts of America who are right now thinking, “Maybe we should hit the Liberty University next; show ’em who’s boss.”

When can we expect the “Liberty University wipes itself out” headlines, as students and faculty have random shootouts with each other?
felicis says
How do they know who the Muslims are? By looking? I think we all know where that’s going to lead…
Jake Harban says
It’s obvious that they believe in a totalitarian and heavily hierarchical system with a complex pecking order. White people outrank “Muslim” (ie, brown) people of course, but there’s also a strict hierarchy within white people, where students are automatically outranked by faculty who are outranked by owners and authorities and so forth. Anyone is allowed to kill anyone lower ranked than them without repercussions; thus, one must always be prepared to affirmatively justify one’s existence to people higher ranked than oneself. Students justify themselves to LU by paying money; citizens justify themselves to cops by allowing the cops to get off on abusing power (unless they don’t get off and they kill you, in which case it’s your fault for not satisfying them) and so forth.
So LU won’t have any random shootouts. Arbitrary shootouts definitely, but not technically random; they will be nominally predictable in accordance with the absurd and abhorrent but internally consistent worldview of right wing authoritarians.
Giliell, professional cynic -Ilk- says
We all know how they’re going to differenciate between “good” American students with guns and “evil” muslim students with guns.
But we all know that of course, Islam isn’t a race, therefore just shooting randomn muslims has totally nothing to do with the skin colour of people. That’s why no Sikh has ever suffered for being mistaken as a muslim.
You can leave the fine details of how that works to Sam Harris…
Anri says
Unfortunately, those details will remain forever vague, because it’s impossible to quote Sam Harris in context. Whatever anyone ever thinks he means, it’s always actually something much, much, smarter than that. Always.

Jerry Falwell Jr should ask himself why his fucking god doesn’t declare itself so the “one true religion” can be recognized by everyone, thus ending sectarian violence & bloodshed. The old fucker, (I mean “god”), should do that, surely, unless it’s not the omniscient, omni…. etc. the religious fools believe it to be, or, even more likely, it doesn’t exist at all.
These people are all delusional wishful thinkers, & not very nice folk at that.
Bob Foster says
So, if a Muslim does somehow get lost in the wilds of western VA and wanders onto Liberty University can he expect to be greeted by a hail of bullets as soon as he crosses the threshold? Falwell might want to reconsider his approach unless he wants to be the defendant in a multi-million dollar wrongful death suit. He could get played just like those dumbasses down in Texas were by that wily Ahmed.
blf says
Failswell won’t get sued, not successfully in any case, since he and his
minionswackos have the perfect excuse: They only kill evil mooslins. If the lady they machine-gunned into a million tiny bits hadn’t been evil, she’d would have just been asked to leave(after spending several days in their dungeon yet still refusing to confess — admittedly, she’d still be dead, which is how they “know” she wasn’t evil, she didn’t user her evil moolsin powers to save herself).marcoli says
We are going to hear about the open carry or the concealed carry argument for some time now. *sigh*. The reason these are among the dumbest ideas in the history of ideas is that if more people are walking around with guns then there will be more shootings during altercations. You cut off a guy in traffic. Someone thinks you stole their parking space. Idiots get into a fight at a bar. There is a brawl in the stands at a football game.

I’m not sure you all understand. Without religion, you can’t have morality. So, it must be true that WITH religion you DO have morality. (Ignore the arrogance of that for a moment) So flying airplanes into buildings and shooting up holiday parties IS moral!

Neither of them are good guys, but one of them might be a cop, which makes it trickier to figure out.
robro says
The problem described by marcoli @ #13 is exactly the reason towns in the west, such as Tombstone, Arizona, didn’t allow guns on the streets. The last thing you wanted was a bunch of liquored up cowboys walking around with pistols. Not only would you end up with a lot of dead cowboys (and who would care about that), but also sheriffs (might care about that), townspeople (mmm), and saloon keepers (oh yeah, care about that).
And of course, we’ve already had an example of this sort of thing in an open cary state: the Waco biker shootout that left 9 people dead and 18 injured. Fortunately, I don’t believe any police, townspeople, or saloon keepers were injured.

Typically chilling & stupid words from a man whose family name is practically synonymous with chilling stupidity. The worst part is that this kind of gung-ho, racist, frontier-justice fantasy is the new normal; the offhand remarks of America’s New Right are, apart from venues like this or the occasional MSM commentator, allowed to pass almost unmolested, as opposed to being called out and shouted down from on high and all other corners.
A similar thing is happening in Australia, with outright, unapologetic racists – be they talkback hosts (invariably angry, entitled, spoiled old white guys, literally to a man), flash-in-the-pan white supremacists or elected officials – becoming evermore bold in their declarations on what to do about the Muslim Problem. An actual sitting Senator – the same one whose paranoia about halal food is only matched by her sheer ignorance on the subject – suggested, on national radio, e-tagging every Muslim, starting with Australia’s Grand Mufti. And she’s not even the most prominent racist idiot on our national stage.
If shanked former PM “Half-Term Tony” Abbott is worrying about the legacy of his abridged administration, he can rest assured that he and his own New Right left behind a nation less caring, more frightened, with bigotry and racism emboldened and encouraged, more likely to harm the innocent in the service of hunting down evildoers, and – ironically – far less safe from extremist attacks.

Falwell Jr.’s .25 caliber pistol would have been almost useless against two people spraying bullets from automatic rifles. It may have worked to cause the shooters to focus on him as opposed to other citizens.

In the States, if you see two people apparently shooting at each other, consider that they could be both shooting at someone else, and that another will arrive late and decide that you’re the bad shooter. Then the police will arrive, and they’re trained to take control by being armed and ready to shoot everyone just in case.

blf says
F.O.@39, The first good guy, Garrett Swasey, quite probably did have a gun: He was, as chrispollard@38 says, a police officer and either a pastor or an “elder” at his church (various sources disagree on that point), Officer killed in Colorado Springs shooting remembered as ‘compassionate’. He was apparently a first responder, sent to the scene from his police duties at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. That suggests he was carrying a gun (and if so, we can presume he was trained in when and how to use it).
rwgate says
My sister informed me that her eldest granddaughter was enrolling at Liberty. I suppose I’ll have to buy her a Glock instead of a laptop as a going away gift. One advantage of the Glock is that she can take someone else’s laptop if she wants. She is planning on going into the ministry, which I find insanely funny, considering she is a Southern Baptist Who apparently doesn’t understand the rules about female pastors.
I’m sure any Muslim students at Liberty are reconsidering their educational choices. Why they would attend a fanatical Christian fundamentalist school is beyond me. Maybe the school will issue them ‘Liberty” collars and tattoo crescent moons on their forheads so the other students don’t shoot them on sight.
