    Was a horde of cephalopods waiting for you so they can take over the world?

  2. magistramarla says

    I am so jealous!
    I miss the sight, the smell and the sounds of the ocean.
    I even love and miss the sounds of sea birds!
    I wanna go back to the west coast so badly, it hurts!

  3. mrcharlie says

    Pleasant sight, but I expected to see you sorta like #2 said, although I envisioned you standing in the ocean with a trident calling the tentacled horde up from the depths. I guess you were just too nice to disturb them!

    FACING west, from California’s shores,
    Inquiring, tireless, seeking what is yet unfound,
    I, a child, very old, over waves, towards the house of maternity, the land of migrations, look afar,
    Look off the shores of my Western Sea—the circle almost circled;
    For, starting westward from Hindustan, from the vales of Kashmere, 5
    From Asia—from the north—from the God, the sage, and the hero,
    From the south—from the flowery peninsulas, and the spice islands;
    Long having wander’d since—round the earth having wander’d,
    Now I face home again—very pleas’d and joyous;
    (But where is what I started for, so long ago? 10
    And why is it yet unfound?)

    So you went back on a Journey to the Beginning of Time!!!

    Ok, spoiler alert: the end of the journey (before the boys magically wake up back in the history museum again) is a long, wide shot of the ocean, where life began. We can go no further…
    Hey, I loved this movie when I was a kid; Frazier Thomas used to run it as a serial on “Garfield Goose and Friends.”

    Sunset and evening star,
    And one clear call for me!
    And may there be no moaning of the bar,
    When I put out to sea,

    But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
    Too full for sound and foam,
    When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

    Twilight and evening bell,
    And after that the dark!
    And may there be no sadness of farewell,
    When I embark;

    For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
    The flood may bear me far,
    I hope to see my Pilot face to face
    When I have crost the bar.

    Cos Whoa! ya think this boat of plastic glass
    knows this landlubber’s will?
    So if no Pilot steers this boat my ass
    is headed for a spill.

    That’s how it goes, right?

    Been a while since I studied by Tennyson.

    Now if he had gone north of the border he could have boated out to the Octopus Islands. Admittedly I’ve seen more jellies there than octopus.

    Dear jackman;

    It is very rude to cross-post the same comment across multiple threads, particularly when it’s not even remotely related to the topic. It also looks a bit desperate.

    I’m sure you recognize the breach of conduct and feel properly abashed now that it is pointed out. Your posts always exhibit such a retiring nature, politely removing themselves from the threads.

    If by chance P.Z is anywhere near Ocean Shores WA. (I go almost year) I highly recommend finding the restaurant at the Ocean Crest resort.
    Wonderful place with wonderful staff.
    On one of my visits they did not have the ingredients for a vegan meal on their menu, the head chef came out from the kitchen and offered to create something new on the spot for me. It was great and I appreciated the effort.
    AND THE VIEW.
    just my 2 cents

    I heard someone on the phone last night saying he’s from the “Eastern seaboard.” Being from the Eastern seaboard myself, I’ve heard this phrase often in my life. I’ve lived in San Francisco for 40+ years, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say “Western seaboard.” It’s either the “West coast” or just “the coast.” Ain’t the American language wonderful.

    What do we call those who live near the Great Lakes? I live on the East Coast of Lake Michigan.

  13. Morgan!? ♥ ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ says

    Another language bit: When I lived in New York City we would go to the shore. When I lived in Los Angeles, we always went to the beach.

  14. Menyambal - torched by an angel says

    A few decades back, there were sea lions hanging out near a fish ladder in Seattle, eating all the salmon. Some folks wanted to shoot “Herschel”, others threatened to shoot anyone who harmed them. So somehow they captured three of the seal lions, and trucked them across the Olympic Peninsula to the Pacific, somewhere near PZ’s pic. There was a picture of the three galumphing down the beach to the water, that somehow conveyed their happiness and anticipation at returning to their ocean home, where they could float and fly and feed and be free.

    One of them got around the peninsula and back to Seattle in, like, three days.

    Living in the ocean is hard.
    Grizzly bears can manage the return to point of departure in less than a day.

    If only I had a life, on vacation by the ocean,

    Instead of sitting here, posting comment after comment on multiple threads,

    On someone else’s blog…

    …oh, wait!

    Another sad attempt at bullshit from, this time, Social Justice Wizard of Oz. Undermined a tad by the obvious troll tactic of copy-pasting the same drivel to multiple threads – a classic red flag for bad faith argument – but hey, you do you. It’s just a shame that you are an idiot.

    The sylmepit is trying ever so desperately to celebrate the death of the hated FTB. Too bad they’re way early for the funeral.

    Writing from Northeast Ohio, the term “North Coast” is commonly used here.

    Shorter Social Wizard of Oz:
    “Let me list off my various grievances and slymepit talking points from the last few years, none of wich are even tangentially related to this post.”

    Thanks for playing, Oz!

    Haha nice, foiled by a serif font. Are you johngreg? I can’t think of anyone else this stupid.

  22. Nightjar says

    LOL. Holms, if I were you, I’d screen cap this before PZ’s clean up. Just for future laughs.

    Seriously, these pathetic trolls are just getting more and more pathetic. It’s almost sad.

  23. Rey Fox says

    Hey look. I’m bitter that I can’t be living life on the beach right now too. But you don’t see me spamming blogs. That would take a hatred of life that I just don’t think I quite have in me.
