The really weird thing about this is that he must have been regularly copying Obama’s tweets and getting a character count. Evidently he was acting on some conspiracy theory.
And his understanding of Twitter’s evolution and the reason the 140 character limit is hard coded into it is evidently nil.
I’ve never understood how a politically very powerful and well-connected Republican could end up up as a commentator on a sports network shilling for the likes of Tiger Woods and the Green Bay Packers. That takes a special kind of disgrace.
I’ll be it is an App that works like auto-correct, only it recognizes a negative comment and automatically attaches Obama’s name. All the wingnuts have it.
I amazed that he counted as high as 140. Normally, without socks on 20 is his limit. He probably had to have his wife count how many times he counted to twenty. For numbers bigger than 400, it’s a family affair.
He was Bush’s Press Secretary. He went from being an apologist for government criminals to being an apologist for sports business criminals.
Seems like an easier job, since football fans want to find a reason to overlook the crimes of their favorite players.
More likely he just copied and pasted a tweet in an attempt to retweet it, and found it had exceeded the character limit.
I’m not personally a tweeter or a twit, but is it actually necessary to copy and paste in order to retweet? That seems kinda kludgy.

It’s absolutely not. In fact, that’s the wrong way to do it; it breaks the conversation’s threading. The only reasons to copy-paste retweet is if you want to add something of your own to it, or the original tweeter has privacy settings that forbid you retweeting.
Oh, and a lot of tweets display with more than 140 characters. That’s because URLs get auto-shortened with twitter t.co service. Only the shortened URL counts against the limit, but twitter.com and most other clients display some part of the full URL as a convenience. So you’ll see something like “freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2013/09/25/the-sun-…” but it’ll really just be counting the characters of something like “t.co/qwertyuiop”

If you don’t wanna mess with base 12, go straight from five fingers palm down = 5
to 1 finger palm up = 6.
Then thumb is +10 for bent, +20 for straight
each finger on the tens hand is +30
four tens fingers = 120
plus straight thumb = 140
plus five fingers out palm up on singles hand = 150
If you do up/down orientation on the tens hand, you get easy, systematic counting up to 290.

best way for a merchant to count quickly while having a record so as not to get lost up to far higher numbers than 20. (or 40 if you use a singles hand and a 5s hand with no orientation (for 30) + 10 more for the toes, which, admittedly, can be hard to use in a system such as this so are likely just counted once).
Of course, fletcher isn’t necessarily clever enough to count to 140 using either of these systems either.

Interesting method of “finger counting” higher than 10, but let me share my “base-5 method” (1-99) :
0=fist
1= index finger
2= index + next finger
3= index + middle + ring finger
4= index + middle + ring + pinkie
5= thumb only
6= thumb + index
…
9=thumb + all fingers
10= index finger of other hand + fist of first hand
11= both index
…(and so-on)
99= both thumbs + all fingers
{right hand fingers are units, right thumb is 5, left fingers are 10’s, left thumb is 50}

OT I have always been amused by the “cultural difference” in finger-numbering between ‘Muricans and “Uropeons”. In America, 1 is always the index finger and 2 is the “peace sign” (V sign), in Europe (AFAIK), the thumb is 1, and 2 is the thumb + index finger. Why is that (if true at all)?

In Thailand and Cambodia, 1 is the index, 2 index and middle, 3 index to ring, 4 index to pinky, and the thumb is added at 5. Same procedure for 6-10. The Khmer words for the numbers 6-9 literally mean 5+1, 5+2, etc. Apparently there was a base 5 systen in use in Angkor times. Pretty complex.
