We’ve got a new addition here, Nirmukta, and here’s what they do.
A quick introduction to Nirmukta: Nirmukta is an organization which promotes science, freethought and secular humanism in India. It was founded as a website by Ajita Kamal in 2008, and since then its online presence has grown into three websites: the main parent site at nirmukta.com, the community forum at nirmukta.net and Nirmukta’s atheist activism arm, indianatheists.org. We have formed regional groups in several Indian cities as well; the objective of these groups is to mobilise local on-ground activism (like Hug an Atheist Day just the other day). Nirmukta also operates numerous social media groups on Facebook. This includes the popular Indian Atheists page, one of the largest gatherings of atheists in India. Their FtB branch is clearly just one tentacle on the mighty cephalopod that is Indian science and atheism.
I mean, you can’t even begin to compare our atheism with the number of gods these guys don’t believe in!
All joking aside, that’s great news!
This makes four new blogs not on the main page except on the sidebar and five officially closed ones still there. Ed promised a main page rebuild quite a while ago. It’s getting more and more overdue.
And don’t get me started on Comradde Physioproffe!
I was a little bit taken aback when I looked at the URL indianatheists.org. I read it as “Indiana Theists” at first :)
Another addition? I thought FtB was supposed to be fading into irrelevance. Have I been lied to?

Yea! I’ve been reading Nirmukta for years! Love it.
I’m really glad to have some critiques of Hinduism added to FtB. In addition to the problems it causes in regions such as India, forms of it have trickled into the public consciousness of that great mass of spiritual-but-not-religious and liberalized religious traditions found elsewhere, contributing to the general decay of rational thought and the considerable scorn for atheism. If you don’t think the philosophy of Deepok Chopra is a reasonable compromise in the war between science and religion, then Nirmukta is for you.
They’ve had a great roster of contributors over the years. I really hope hope hope the FtBlog includes Meera Nanda.

…and a Vedic creationist organization has added me to their “mailing list” (actually a newsletter) called Sadhu Sangha. I accepted, because it’s fun, though I haven’t found the time to write any replies yet.
This is the obligatory question about the roll-out of the mythical new front page for FTB. It’s imminence was claimed when the last additions to FTB occurred, but we’ve seen nothing!
Come on FTB, show us the evidence of the new front page’s existence!
Clearly I missed Trebuchet at comment #2 above.
I agree that having long dead blogs on the front page with the new ones relegated to the side bar is bad. I would go so far to day that it doesn’t seem very welcoming to the new blogs. There is lying in state, but that time was up long ago for several of the blogs. What is needed is an archive section for old blogs that are still hosted at FTB.
In fact, I generally overlook the new blogs due to reading FTB with a smartphone – from the front page I use the blog banners to get to the blog itself. This means unless I go looking in the weeds of the side bar, I don’t read the new blogs.
To Trebuchet’s other point – I rather enjoy Comradde Physioproffe. Obviously just a shallow rift with Trebuchet in this regard.
