Grrlscientist is pushing another of those online quiz thingies—What’s Your Theme Song?—and it was quick and easy, so I took it. Now I’m horribly scarred. Especially compared to my fellow science bloggers, I got a result that disturbs me deeply. I may end up getting kicked off scienceblogs over this.
Your Theme Song is Oops I Did It Again by Britney Spears
“It might seem like a crush
But it doesn’t mean that I’m serious”Heartbreaker, superflirt, player… you’ve been called all of those.
You’re not that innocent, and you know that you have a super sexy vibe!
That is so not me. Really. Unless, maybe, the author of the quiz was a squid.
You know, actually, that would kind of fit. Maybe it isn’t so bad after all.
Heathen Dan says
I got the same result myself! But I’m too embarrassed to post the result in my blog. XD
afarensis says
I’d be in denial too, if that was my result…
wolfa says
Oh baby baby.
The Disgruntled Chemist says
How funny! That’s exactly the three word sequence that comes to mind when I look at that little picture of PZ on the sidebar!
Ha!
RavenT says
One of these days, when Mr. Raven and I are nouveau riche, we’re going to have a toilet that plays that refrain every time we flush.
Dean W. Armstrong says
It’s not a problem: she can explain semiconductor physics for you!
Christian says
Ha! My theme song was AC/DC’s Back in Black!
Charlie Wagner says
Trivia Question
What time is it on the clock in the car in the opening segment of every episode of the Sopranos?
My wife never liked the Sopranos, too much violence. So we never watched it. She doesn’t like mobsters in general.
I, on the other hand, grew up in Brooklyn near President Street, where we came into contact with the Gallo crowd. When I worked in Queens, my school was across the street from the Gotti clubhouse in South Ozone Park. I like mobsters. I never felt threatened by them. They never bothered “civilians” if they minded their own business.
So I bought the entire set of DVD’s and started watching them. I’m hooked. I’m through the first 2 seasons and I’m starting on the third.
Which brings me to the “clock” question.
BTW, Paul, I would have suspected that your theme song would be “Angry Young Man” by Billy Joel:
“And there’s always a place for the angry young man,
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand.
And he’s never been able to learn from mistakes,
So he can’t understand why his heart always breaks.
But his honor is pure and his courage as well,
And he’s fair and he’s true and he’s boring as hell-
And he’ll go to the grave as an angry old man.”
Keith Douglas says
I got Back in Black too. Which is odd, since I have never deliberately listened to AC/DC. Of course, the same would be true of Britney Spears.
As for semiconductor physics, does anyone miss the days when (I think it was) Barbie would teach category theory? (Obscure reference, I know …)
frank says
Mine? Pink Floyd, “Comfortably Numb.”
Personally, I think it’s right on Therefore you’re obviously a teen-aged girl just pretending to be a scientist.
Ithika says
Barbie teaches Category Theory… that sounds like a lesson worth staying up past my bedtime for! Anyway:
I got Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”. But the only question I could comfortably answer — without the feeling I was lying through my teeth — was “What format do you want the results in?”, so I don’t really trust any of the answers to reflect anything.
ulg says
Professor Myers, your quiz results are a clear sign that your Former Master has callously traded you away to a Higher Power, and said Higher Power will soon devour you.
Linkmeister says
Richard Thompson (of Fairport Convention and many many solo albums; one of the best guitarists of the past 35 years) covered that song extraordinarily well.
Blake Stacey says
Like Christine above, I also received AC/DC’s “Back in Black”. And here I was hoping for “Coin Operated Boy” by the Dresden Dolls.
Now I’m peeved: the “What Element is Your Love” quiz only gives the four Greek elements as possible answers. Goddamn it, my love has to be something in the uranium decay series — like nuclear waste, it is toxic and persistent for far too long.
Blake Stacey says
Oops, by “Christine” I meant “Christian.” Sloppy fingers.
I don’t recall Barbie ever teaching category theory, though after I work through Lawvere and Schanuel’s Conceptual Mathematics this summer, I might as well write it myself. Topoi are hard. Let’s go shopping!
For the history of the “Let’s go shopping” meme/snowclone, see here.
noborders says
Ooh, I like mine. Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf.
But how can I respect any blogger, science or otherwise, who takes (and then blogs about) these stupid quizzes?
frank schmidt says
I got “It’s a Beautiful Day” by U2. Am I too well-adjusted for this blog?
Frank
PZ Myers says
You can’t. We are but worms.
Alon Levy says
I got Back in Black, even though I was hoping for Comfortably Numb. But I could only answer one question without doubt, apart from the format one – my last relationship was certainly too much drama.
aiabx says
I also got Back in Black, but I’m guessing the choices are pretty limited. I think Particle Man would have been a better choice for me.
MYOB says
Actually I tested it.
Since the thing revolved around the ladies choices I couldn’t find anything really related to what I might feal under the circumstances.
But I tested it. I changed on selection throughout the list of options for that question and found that on at least one of the questions the changes didn’t affect the song.
I changed another and found that some questions had a specific weight to the answers when combined with others.
I would be interested in seeing the formula they used to equate the questions and answers.

Chris says
Comfortably Numb… whew.
cmk_ says
What’s with this – I got the same thing – yeeech
John M Price says
Back in Black.
Paul, I don’t even know how to take yours!
Joe Don Martin says
What does it mean that I got “Fight for Your Right To Party” by the Beastie Boys- except that I really like both the song and the purveyors of “Egg Raid On Mojo”?
RyanG says
I got Sheryl Crow’s ‘Soak Up the Sun’. I’ve never heard it.
I guess 2112 wasn’t an option.
mark1 says
Mine was back in black. I must be doing something right.
idlemind says
Steppenwolf, “Born To Be Wild.”
It fits me about as well as PZ’s fits him. But at least I liked the song (well, when it first came out), unlike “Whoops…”
Torbjörn Larsson says
“”Groove is in the Heart” by Dee-lite”
Never heard of it…
“For you, life should be one huge party… And even though it’s not, you tend to dance your troubles away!”
… but they got that right. Life is dance, and dance is life, and troubles soon trampled under busy feets.
