Video: Supreme Court Guts Clean Water Act

I may dig into this more later, but the Supreme Court has launched another attack in their war on humanity. They’ve gutted the clean water act, in a move that puts a huge portion of US wetlands at risk, at a time when we need them more than ever. I’ve been expecting this shoe to drop for a while now, but what I did not expect was that Brett Kavanaugh, of all people, would be on the right side of this, and would be the one to correctly warn of the damage this ruling will do. Credit where it’s due, I guess, but that doesn’t do anything to limit the harm. The common saying is, “it’s going to get worse before it gets better” applies here, but I can’t help but feel that we’re running out of time for things to do anything but keep getting worse.

Maybe we can save a few of them by building canals from affected wetlands to nearby rivers.  Unfortunately, in Missouri where I live, they’ll probably disconnect some wetlands by building dams.

Well, I appreciate the general idea, and looking for ways around. I don’t know that adding a new drain to the wetlands would help them, though. I worry it would remove the “wet” part of that.

Yeah, it probably wouldn’t work in very many cases.  The wetland and the nearby river would have to normally stay at the same elevation, even during floods and droughts.

But the real reason for my comment was the bit of snark in the second sentence.  The majority of legislators in my red state will do their best to just be hateful and mean and find a way to say it’s “for the children”…or something.  (For example, we have two new anti-trans laws that have been in the news lately.  I won’t describe them for fear of derailing your comment section; but neither would come as a surprise to folks who’ve been paying attention.)
