Lazy Sunday with my dog

This is Raksha.

The image shows a mid-sized dog. She's mostly black with light tan on her legs and cheeks, and on her feet and muzzle, except for a black stripe down the top of her nose. She's lying in reddish cedar mulch. Behind her is a very low brick wall, and behind that a car parked in the street. Her ears are pointed, and she's looking intently down the street where a less mellow dog is barking. She's part German Shepard, and part Husky, and she has thick, soft fur. The top of her head and her ears in particular feel like velvet.

She’s 11 years old now, and can’t really run anymore, but she likes sitting out and sniffing the breeze.

This shows Raksha sniffing the breeze with her eyes mostly closed in the bright sunlight. She's mostly black with light tan on her legs and cheeks, and on her feet and muzzle, except for a black stripe down the top of her nose. She's lying in reddish cedar mulch. Behind her is a very low brick wall. Her ears are cocked in two different directions as she tracks noises around her, and she's facing the camera. She has cream-colored, slightly triangular eyebrows (long side along her eyes, with two shorter sides meeting in a point about centered over them. The black fur on top of her head looks very glossy in the sun.

This is another one of her sniffing around. Even when she could run, sniffing the breeze was always one of her favorite passtimes.

In this one she's still sniffing, but she's giving me a side-eye because I just tried to get her to look at the camera, and she totally didn't hear me; she promises.

Raksha is a Good Dog, and also not a wolf. You might think that was obvious, but for some of the younger kids around here, she seems to be the biggest, wolfiest dog they’ve seen. She’s only 50lbs or so, but I’m sure there’s some kid out there who will grow up remembering that time he saw a wolf walking down the street, and that can only be a good thing.

Beautiful dog. Notsure what breed – if any and no breed necessary.but reminds me of my own current 9 and 1/2 year old Kelpie albeit a bit stockier. Also dogs are descended from wolves and nothing wrong with that or looking like their ancestors -closely or otherwise.

Give Raksha a pat and treat from me, please.
