Run the Country Like a Business?

Businesses are made to fuck you to pieces and feed the meat to their next victim, so yeah, wouldn’t it be amazing if the government was run like a business?  Oh boy, can’t wait, let’s see…  During the last year Biden was in office dem politicians were making moves towards ending exploitive practices by commercial tax services and make the public aware you can often file for free directly on the IRS website.  I did it for the first time for tax year 2024, which was great, and then… as a gimme to corporate fucklords, the government has ended the ability to file for free on the IRS website.  Can’t do it this year.

Thanks, shitler!  I’d like you to load up a few shotgun shells with broken glass and human feces and rearrange your face with that at your earliest convenience, thanks.  Since you love giving us little gifts like this, let us love you back.

Technically there’s still some way to file for free there but they made it just complicated enough to ensure the maximum number of people are diverted to the businesses that donated to shitler’s campaign.  That ain’t graft, it’s business!  Business is so good for people, god i love business.

Busy busy busy business, love it love it love it.  Yay business.  Corporate States of America, with a CEO cherry on top, oh boy, so good.  So good for us little guys.  CEOrange sure is a man of the people.  God it’s great to live by his fiats.  We should all be grateful.  Make America Grateful Again, weeeeee…

lol, is there even a way to do it for free on there? got a 404 error when i tried to follow a link for it.
there’s a link to some third party shit that claims to be for free. i remember trying to use it last year before i realized i was in the wrong place and the IRS’s thing they deleted this year was so much easier and better… yeah, i’m gonna fucken pay for it.

Republicans are running the country the way a RPG party loots a corpse (the degree to which that resembles big business is left as an exercise for the reader). No thought given to whether it’s in any better shape after their depredations, they just want their share of the booty and a fast exit.

I was a bit confused by the article you had linked. It said the program was started by Biden, but I have been filing for free through the IRS since at least the 2016 tax year. I see what you’re talking about was a more automated system that, I assume, must have been similar to what those for-profit businesses offer. What I have been using is much more manual, but it looks to be still available. Here’s a link: https://www.freefilefillableforms.com/home/default.php
Yeah, it’s a “.com” but it is what the IRS has listed as where to go for free filing.
As I said, it’s much more manual and so it will involve reading the IRS instructions. But I also use my prior year’s returns — Which you should keep a copy of! I have heard it recommended you keep a copy of returns from the previous 5 years. — as a guide to help make sure I don’t miss anything and that typically works great as long as I didn’t do anything significantly different in the current year from the prior year. (2024 was a bit more challenging, personally, as I both got married and started working as an “independent contractor.” I thus had quite a few differences from my 2023 return.)

    behold – so true

leo – yeah the freefillablfirmsdotyadda is the option that remains. you might not have been able to use the one i used last year, depending on the complexity of your situation, but i was able to use it, and it was so easy.

it was a beautiful dream, like, this is how government is supposed to work. if i didn’t have such a sweet time of it last year, i wouldn’t know what i was missing, wouldn’t be too pissed.

Somehow when they want to “run the country like a business” they never mention that the businesses they’re thinking of are the most cut-throat vulture capitalists possible. Where the goal is to burn it all down and sell the rubble as charcoal. You can tell this is Trump’s approach by just looking at what he’s done with public spaces.

On a side note there was an update on your guy Luigi.

And Trump’s clown circus is lying about the Epstein files again.

Running a country like a business works if that business is a workhouse or one of those laundries the nuns used to run.

Yeah, the Magdalene Laundries, where bad girls went to get rid of their ‘little problem’ and be worked sometimes to death into the bargain along with far too many of the ‘little problems’ dying too.

In the United States of America there exist for-profit prisons.
    That’s a constitutionally-supported business model.

Business runs for profit. That’s the point.
Profit leaves the loop; it’s extraction, not reinforcement.
Government doesn’t need that loop, because the target is not a surplus.
Therefore, running it as a business makes zero sense.

    Different systems, different optimisation goals.
Trying to run either as the other is category error.

FWIW, for the last few years, I haven’t actually ‘done’ tax.

It automagically happens in the background. I do zero about it.
Probably because I’m retired and living on my super, and ATO knows my bank accounts and dividends etc.

(Weird, but I happily take it!)

That sort of income tax filing is in the offing for me in Canada. There are some “paperwork” hoops to jump and I am doing them.
My only income is Canada Pension and a couple of other old folks support. CRA knows as much as I do about all of this. I am totally on board.
