Persian Horse, designed by Peter Engel
Here’s a horse I folded at a conference many years ago. It’s meant to stand on its hind legs, although you’d really need to attach it to a stand.
Earlier I was talking to someone who sold stands to origamists, and he observed that origamists are really cheap because they can get hours of entertainment from a sheet of paper. Yeah… I can’t really see myself buying a stand for this.

Horse Red Pocket, designed by Don Leung
Bonus horse! I folded this at another conference. It’s meant to function as a hongbao, those red envelopes with money handed out to kids on New Years.
I should say, we didn’t much celebrate when I was growing up. We got red envelopes and maybe there was a family dinner, but nothing like the two week celebrations you get in East Asia.
We also had tikoy, but I honestly can’t remember if that was like a New Years thing or if it was whenever my mom felt like making it. I can make tikoy now but my husband finds it too weird for him.
