Questionable Beauty of a Snowless Winter – Part 1

Freezing temperatures have finally arrived in central Europe, we had -6°C a few days ago. Unfortunately, it was not accompanied by any snow whatsoever, not a single flake. However the rapid onset of frost after relatively warm weather has covered every stone, every piece of plastic or metal and every blade of grass and tree twig with ice crystals, so I took my camera and made a few quick pictures.

When I was a kid, usually there were at least twenty cm of snow outside at this time.

Gorgeous photos, the third one is my favorite. We had a few days of morning frost (nothing compared to this, though) but I didn’t have a chance to take pictures. I kept thinking “well, this surely won’t be the last day of frost this year”. I’m beginning to think I was wrong about that…

It’s lovely how intricate it is.

There was a few mm snow here, but it’s gone again. It’s not a winter here.

Just today I saw the first blooming hazel. No wonder I’m getting early pollen allergy symptoms. Usually it begins in March or at most late February.

    Beautiful.

We haven’t had that much yet, and we should have. Some of the primroses in the front garden ater flowering, and they really shouldn’t be doing that yet here.
