Jack’s Walk

Roadside thistle, taller than me, ©voyager, all rights reserved

It’s another beautiful day in Southwestern Ontario so Jack and I took to the country for our outing. We had a lovely slow walk looking at all the growing things and finding everything healthy and big for this time of year. The corn is my eye high and even the weeds reach over my head. I love it when the plants are big enough to make you feel small and a bit like Alice through the looking-glass.

Oh, look at the size of the teasel! Wow, they are grand. Teasel combs are still the best for a lot of fabric naps.

Retrofuturistic looking plants. They don’t occur here, so I’ve never seen them before. Beautiful and alien.

One of the many reasons I like this blog so much is all the cool stuff I learn. A teasel for instance is not a thistle.
After reading your comments it occurred to me that I didn’t really know what a teasel was so I looked it up and it’s a completely different family from thistles. Now I know! Thanks.

    Very interesting plant.
I get you on the tall vegetation, I love that feeling walking through tunnels of tall grass, although it can be weird and disorienting, too. And then I think about the tropics and realize how large the vegetation gets in warmer climes, and suddenly I don’t feel so safe anymore…

I jumped over a low wall into a patch of teasels, once. Hate the damn things, now. Even though it was ny fault. Does that make me a republican?
