    Peacocks, posh fowl.

In the second, the contrast between the bird and the background is breathtaking.

    Royalty from Giliell

Not sure if this is intentional or a coincidence, but in Spanish peacocks are known as “royal turkeys” :) Anyway, I love these fellas. There used to be many of them roaming free in a zoo nearby, but the park was closed and the animals relocated a couple of years ago.

Finally not a tit, right? It’s relief really. We have been awash is a veritable sea of tits. Tits. tits, and more tits. Now finally we get a peacock. About time, I say. About time. One day I hope to see an oxpecker grace these pages, but until then a peacock is a most welcome relief.

Lovely but I always thought they were supposed to have the Taj Mahal or an ornate Persian palace as background.

Jazzlet, that they do! Back in SLC (Utah), I lived a few blocks away from the park which has a large aviary, and it took a while to adjust to hearing peacocks crying in the middle of the night. Those voices seriously carry!

Oh! @Caine, #7: Did you used to live by the Tracy Aviary? I LOVED that place! I went there nearly every Sunday to spend time with the birds.

One thing about peafowl, while yes, the males to make noise during the breeding season, they are silent during the molt, so there’s a respite from the racket! I used to raise them, they are wonderful (but slightly dim) birds.
