Actress Carrie Fisher has passed away following a massive heart attack she suffered on a flight from London to Los Angeles, People is reporting. Fisher was 60 years old.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” family spokesman Simon Halls said in a statement. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher, the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, burst to fame as Princess Leia in the popular ‘Star Wars’ films .
According to CNN, Fisher’s flight was on approach to Los Angeles when the 60-year-old actress became ill, with passengers reportedly rushing to her aid.
Goodbye, Ms. Fisher, and thank you for so many wonderful moments. My favourite movie turn was Ms. Fisher playing the sardonic and cynical Bianca in Scream 3.

It’s been a sad week. Rabbi Lionel Blue, Rick Parfitt, George Michael, and now Carrie Fisher.
My condolences to her friends and family, and to anyone who’s lost friends and loved ones.
There seems no end of 2016s reaping. A hell of a time to lose so many bright lights.
Richard Adams died too, on Xmas eve. At least he made it to 96.
Very sad.
My dad says that as we grow older we have more years when people we knew about start dropping like flies. Unless we’re the ones that dropped.

Perhaps, but it may have been his heart, too. Best to wait for the autopsy results, and for me, it really doesn’t matter. I don’t struggle with heroin use, but given my pain issues, I’ve rather resigned myself to ending up dead from an accidental overdose one of these days.

And celebrity death is as celebrity death does, but this one hits close. I grew up on Star Wars, and she was about the most kickass woman character out there. This one hits hard.

While it’s easy to think of reasons having to do with the high birth rates post-WW2 in Europe and America, modern medicine, human longevity and global mass culture, it is still sad to see so many well-known people die. The statistical phenomena don’t change the death itself.
Early reports indicate she drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra.

I read this morning that, according to her son, her final words were “I want to be with Carrie” (can’t remember where, though entertainment media have a version). :( Either way. Completely rotten and heartbreaking.
