Nuns have been slacking in the gay hatred department. And the Vatican isn’t going to take that kind of shit from God’s harem sitting down:
(USA Today) — The Vatican has launched a crackdown on the umbrella group that represents most of America’s 55,000 Catholic nuns, saying that the group was not speaking out strongly enough against gay marriage, abortion and women’s ordination.
Rome also chided the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) for sponsoring conferences that featured “a prevalence of certain radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith.”
The Vatican’s disciplinary action against the LCWR was announced on Wednesday, one day before Pope Benedict XVI marked seven years as pontiff.

This is not terribly surprising.
When Cardinal Ratzinger had the ear of Bishop of Rome Wojtiwa, he worked to clear out all the Catholic monasteries of gay men (many of whom had been talked into going there by Catholic priests in the first fucking place). I knew a guy who had been kicked out of a Franciscan monastery for being gay; he found a new life of service as a waiter. Oh, lucky him.
The next time that Catholics claim to be feminists on account of the very large contingent of Mother Mary idolizers within the Mother Church, we must explain that feminism is not on the agenda for the Bishop of Rome.
I feel one theme that’s particularly at odds with the RCC is reality.

I’m beginning to suspect that Pope Ratzi is actually a mole determined to bring down the catholic church from the inside. I’m not sure I could do a better job.
What’s really heartening is South America’s recent movement away from religion, which means move away from the Catholic church. Surprising considering how much more religion seems to be entrenched there than here. Teh RCC only has Africa left to fuck over.

He’s right, and it’s been going on for a long time. Why, way back in the ’60s and ’70s, those radical feminist nuns were teaching me to think for myself, to demand social justice for everyone, to champion the equality of people of all colors and genders, and not to judge others. The ones who taught in my all-girls high school had it as their secret mission to graduate seniors who believed themselves as good as anybody and determined to succeed at whatever they loved. Yup, those nuns have been at it for a long time!
Benny Ratzi never was a parish priest. He was a theology professor until he became a bishop. So he’s had little interaction with Catholic laity and the lower religious peons. He neither knows nor cares what the laity, priests and nuns are concerned about. The guy who wears red Prada® shoes is not worried about poverty and doesn’t give a rat’s ass about people who are. The guy who thinks that Baby Jesus cries whenever someone uses a condom but doesn’t care about sub-Saharan hunger isn’t going to take any shit from uppity nuns who actually try to deal with poverty. The function of the laity is “pray, pay and obey” and there better not be any nuns telling them different.
