Maybe it’s like a zoo lion; they get so used to easy living their once honed reflexes grow dull. Romney, the quintessential political animal, may have suffered a similar fate thanks to kowtowing conservative media that goes out of its way to indulge him and big bucks to paper over any remaining stupidity. Whatever, speaking at the NRA, Mitt Romney dove headlong right back into the ovary wars attacking the President and the ACA:
(TPM) — But in doing so, he elided two key facts about his tenure as governor of Massachusetts: that he enforced a very nearly identical mandate at the state level enacted by his predecessor; and advanced a separate one requiring religiously affiliated hospitals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims.
Mittens is not going to win this one, poll after poll clearly shows the GOP is on the wrong side of it, and no matter what he says or who he trots out, there are too many wingnuts who can’t keep their mouths shut about women to pretend otherwise. But the GOP can’t get away from basic human nature: People want to control when they have kids. I don’t know why Romney and his caucus can’t seem to get that, maybe they’re just dumber than we think.
'Tis Himself says
Romney and other GOP candidates are attempting damage control. It’s obvious they went too far in trying to suck up to the Catholic Bishops and the Robertson/Dobson coterie. Now people who might otherwise support Republican candidates are upset that the socially active wing of the Republican Party are attacking an issue most people thought had been settled decades ago.

QFT.
Accordint to the US CDC, 99% of women in relevant cohorts use birth control. It is 98% for Catholic women.
A recent poll shows that 70% of the US population doesn’t even understand why the Tea Party is bring contraception up. It’s been a settled issue for most of a century.
You could make a stronger argument that any sane, responsible adult plans their family size out. I don’t even let my cats have kittens, they are all fixed.
And if you look at all the fundie xian toad leaders, most of them have small families of 2-4 children. They don’t want to reproduce like rabbits. They have better things to do with their time and money.

As a “victim” of Romneycare, let me point out the disgusting awfulness we here in the Bay State are suffering.
98% of our children are insured.
95% of our adults are insured. All of our 600K college kids are insured through their instituion.
We live longer.
We are healthier, less obese, and have fewer teen pregnancies.
Birth control is included by statute.
Two Catholic hospitals closed their emergency rooms. They also closed their in-house pharmacies (now only “dispensaries” to in-patients).
Pharmacies are required to stock Plan B and contraceptives; there is no conscience exception (“If you want a pharmacist’s license, you have to be a pharmacist. If you don’t like it, go work at St. E’s.”)
Is it heaven? Hell, no, insurance rates keep climbing, as do some hospital costs.
And Vermont is going to wipe the floor with us when their single-payer comes on board.
Romney ought to be singing of this sucess to the rafters.
And yes, we still call it RomneyCare™.
