Every five year a slaughter festival takes place in Nepal. Hindus offer animals to Gadhimai goddess for luck and prosperity.
The ritual sacrifice of goats, buffaloes and roosters in Gadhimai temples and at home is widespread in Nepal.
10,000 buffalo calves and 150,000 goats are going to be offered to Gadhimai — the goddess of power — during the ritual.
In the last time nearly 20,000 buffalo calves were killed, and more than 200,000 goats were slaughtered. This year less animals are sacrificed because of animal activists are trying to prevent people from slaughtering animals. Hundreds of people thousands of animals for 2 days, many animals were not slaughtered completely. Buffaloes walk with their head hanging in the killing fields.
Do people get prosperity after making Gadhimai happy by killing hundreds of thousands of animals? For human’s superstition, so many animals are getting brutally murdered. This barbarism must be stopped.

It is a matter of grave concern not only for animal lovers but for humanity at large. Intend to write to PETA to campaign vigorously against the brutal ritual. Vishwa Hindu Parishad also need to intervene.

Reading this almost made me cry. These people have no respect for the beautiful, peaceful, and harmless lives of these animals. They pray to a god that I doubt exists. Any god in which people have to murder people or animals for them must be a pretty shitty god! I hope animal rights activists put these barbarians in their places soon!

goddess will never be happy by these thing. even the government is not taking stringent action against these actions were thousands of buffaloes are slaughtered. buffaloes should be replaced by humans only

I can’t understand the logic of sacrifice. If the gods gave it to you to begin with, you’re merely giving back a tiny part of what’s theirs anyway. And giving a sacrifice in order to gain future prosperity isn’t a sacrifice at all. More of an investment.
I imagine it’s like someone doing good – are you really doing good if you’re doing it to receive a giant reward after you die? You’re not sacrificing anything, but rather gaining immensely.

What you are looking at in the photo is not the whole story. Without trying to understand the story, you have chopped the story up and fitted into what your current understandings.
These people recognize the debt that they are in due to everything they consume from the world. The killing of these animals is part of what keeps the world alive. If you live in any part of the so called modern countries, we consume a 1,000 times more than they do, yet we believe we have no debt to the natural world. What modern people are doing is a million times more damaging to the natural world and we don’t stop and just point our fingers at what another culture is doing and say it is wrong. We should point the finger back at ourselves and take a look at our slaughter houses that don’t feed the holy or give life except to humans. In the US alone we slaughter millions of animals every month and it is all hidden away unlike the people in the photo above. At least they can deal with the reality of death.

still better than Muslim terrorists killing humanity.

Horrible! Sometimes I feel human beings are the most despicable terrorists that ever existed among living beings on this blue planet. Whether it’s Hindu superstition calling for animal sacrifice, or Muslims slaughtering animals on Eid ul Azhar, or maybe those African tribals carrying out slaughter under the command of their witch doctor, it’s sheer unadulterated terror. Whether it was Hitler who sent millions of Jews to the gas chambers, or Attila the Hun, or Genghis Khan, or Taimur the Lame, or Nadir Shah, or the bloody battle between Ashoka’s men with Kalinga soldiers, or the napalm attack on Vietnamese people or the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I am forced to reach the conclusion that many of us humans have been the most obnoxious beings on Earth. They build nuclear arsenals to threaten each other to wipe them out, but never agree to sit down and agree to wipe out each and every nuclear bomb on this planet. Till today, I am yet to get a convincing reply from anybody about why humans resort to violence against humans and other living beings. Is it a part of our DNA?
