On March 15, 2019, a man walked into two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand during Friday prayers and killed 51 people and injured 89 others. He live-streamed the first attack. The. following month on April 27, another man walked into a synagogue in San Diego during Passover and started shooting, killing one woman and injuring three others. On October 12, 2022, yet another man shot and killed two people and injured another outside a gay bar in Bratislava, Slovakia. In each case the person was caught and the authorities concluded that they were so-called ‘lone wolf’ attacks in that the perpetrator acted alone.
Technically, that conclusion was correct in that each person planned and carried out the attack on their own with no accomplices. But what investigators from PBS Frontline and ProPublica working jointly found is that all three were connected via a network called the Terrorgram Collective that operated on the social media platform Telegram, after starting out on 4Chan and 8Chan. There were people on that network who were constantly exhorting others to kill as many Muslims, Jews, and gays as possible in order to stimulate a race war that would lead to the creation of a white ethno-nationalist state free of anybody who is not both white and Christian.
All three of the killers posted manifestos of their actions which were distributed widely on Terrorgram and were even made into audiobooks. The people behind the Terrorgram network praised the killers and called them ‘saints’ and urged others to follow their example and also become saints. They only wished that the San Diego and Bratislava shooters had claimed more victims and urged others to follow the Christchurch shooter’s example of getting a high death count. The U.S. government eventually charged two Americans on the network with many felonies, including soliciting the murder of government officials.
Prosecutors noted that a manifesto written by Earnest and posted on the internet shortly before the attack was found during the investigation in which Earnest made many anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim statements, including “I can only kill so many Jews” and “I only wish I killed more.”
Given the xenophobia and racism that characterizes the current US government, one can only imagine that these people think that their dream of creating a white Christian state is getting closer and only requires a few more massacres to reach fruition.
The full documentary, that lasts one hour and 23 minutes, can be viewed for free below or by clicking here.
I remember this because they actually streamed body cam footage of themselves killing people like it was a “first-person shooter” video game (which is where they probably got the idea). Horrifying stuff.
(I’m referring to NZ (Aotearoa) by the way.)
I wondered if this was going to be about Soyjak.
Basically: some recent school shootings have been connected to Soyjak, a message board that combines white supremacy with incel misogyny..
