There has been a lot of buzz about the benefits and dangers of the new generation of AI software but one thing is clear is its potential for humor. The closest I get to nature are the excellent documentaries put out by David Attenborough and so I really enjoyed this short clip of ‘David Attenborough’ describing the behavior of the Tesla Cybertruck.

Apparently there is a whole reddit section devoted to hating on the Cybertruck.
I’m in my mid fourties, I’ve been gaming for 30 years, and the cybertruck looks exactly like what passed for decent graphics back in the 1990s
I frequently encounter one of these on my bicycle commute, and it’s just mind-boggling. They are huge, and don’t fit in standard parking spaces (doesn’t stop them from trying, and sticking out into the road…).
And, the design is just… questionable? large, flat sheets aren’t very strong. And then the sharp corners are a safety hazard. And having the windows at the same angle as the body can’t really make for great visibility. On top of just looking kinda dumb. And I hear they are rather expensive.
I really like that I’m lucky enough with my location and job that I can exist without an automobile. previously, when that wasn’t the case, I had a motorcycle, and if I had to own a vehicle in the future, I’d likely try to get some version of a kei truck.
But for now, I really like that I don’t own anything I can’t lift over my head, and I’m looking forward to reducing how many things I do own in the near future.
Some years ago a friend asked me to test some big lithium cells he bought to put together a High Voltage battery for his diy EV conversion of his Toyota Celica. i also milled and drilled aluminum adapter plates for the transmission and electric motor. After that was done we were looking for other potential conversion projects, but OEM EVs had started production and offered better components and solutions than diy, for less money. It cost less to buy a used EV than was possible to do a conversion. So it wasn’t long before quite a few of my friends, family and in-laws seemed to be driving some sort of EV. Over time i have been able to drive all of the tesla versions, and even recently the big-ass truck. It is huge and heavy, but accelerates quicker than any of the rest. With 4-wheel steering at low speed and reverse, it feels like you are crab walking out of a parking space.

They just aren’t designed for me. From what I can tell their target audience is someone with more disposable income than I have who wants an oversized vehicle that’s sort of hiding a flatbed in a bizarre looking design that compromises a number of things to get a very particular look.
I don’t really care much about them since they’re a product aimed at other people. As long as they don’t make for unsafe driving they just won’t affect me. The video is kind of funny and they do look goofy but I have no idea why anyone would focus on them. I think most of the humor in the video for me is because I also like nature documentaries.
That look being “the personnel carrier from Aliens.” In whose cabin the famous “take off and nuke the entire site from orbit” line is spoken.
I wonder how well the Cybertruck would hold up if it got spattered by xenomorph blood?

I was a pretty regular commenter on the CyberStuck subreddit. A guilty pleasure, to be sure. Amazing how the arguments in support of the CT parallel those of creationists, climate change deniers, and DT supporters in general.
