After all the tough rhetoric about taking over the government, the insurrectionists are now whining that they deserve pardons from Trump because they did what he wanted them to. They seem to think that just being a Trump supporter means not having to face any consequences.
Jenna Ryan, a Texas real estate broker who took a private jet to Washington to join the attack on the US Capitol, has pleaded with Donald Trump to pardon her after she was arrested by federal authorities.
After surrendering to the FBI on Friday, Ryan said: “We all deserve a pardon.”
“I’m facing a prison sentence,” she told CBS11 at her home. “I think I do not deserve that.”
Turning to look into the camera, she said: “I would ask the president of the United States to give me a pardon.”
On Wednesday, Trump was impeached for inciting the attack on 6 January that left five people dead, including a police officer, and sent lawmakers fleeing for their lives.
Ryan said she had been “displaying my patriotism”, adding: “I listen to my president who told me to go to the Capitol.”
“We’re gonna go down and storm the Capitol,” Ryan said in a video posted to Facebook.
“They’re down there right now and that’s why we came and so that’s what we are going to do. So wish me luck.”
During a live Facebook video at the scene of the incursion, Ryan stated: “We are going to fucking go in here. Life or death, it doesn’t matter. Here we go.”
She climbed the steps of the Capitol, then promoted her real estate business to camera: “Y’all know who to hire for your realtor. Jenna Ryan for your realtor.”
Later, Ryan posted on Twitter: “We just stormed the Capital [sic]. It was one of the best days of my life.”
Watch her video, an example of entitlement on full display.
An aide to Rudy Giuliani is reportedly offering to sell Trump pardons for two million dollars a pop. Rudy might need one himself.
An associate of Rudy Giuliani told a former CIA officer a presidential pardon was “going to cost $2m”, the New York Times reported on Sunday in the latest bombshell to break across the last, chaotic days of Donald Trump’s presidency.
The report detailed widespread and in some cases lucrative lobbying involving people seeking a pardon as Trump’s time in office winds down. The 45th president, impeached twice, will leave power on Wednesday with the inauguration of Joe Biden.
Grfters gotta grift, down to the bitter end.

And I would say -- good fucking luck with that.

What’s that quote? Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel?

I am not sure that the people seeking a pardon are doing themselves any favors by saying they were following the directions of “the president”. That seems like they are laying the blame on him, and if there is one thing that The Orange Toddler-Tyrant does NOT like, it is accepting any blame.

This reminds me of a scene from the 2001 Brendan Fraser movie, “The Mummy Returns”:

The other story in this vein is those who stormed the Capitol and felt betrayed by DT for calling for calm (several days after the fact…). Did they honestly expect him to show any loyalty to them? When has he EVER shown loyalty to anyone? Some people simply cannot learn.

So she committed a crime at the suggestion of Trump and then she wants Trump to take care of it so she doesn’t have to suffer the consequences of said crime. Isn’t it how the mob works?
garnetstar says
I like that she hired a private jet. Be sure to waste as much money as possible when on your way to commit a live-streamed crime that will land you in prison.
I keep telling my students that there are actions whose consequences may be unavoidable, and even un-mitigatable (?). And, that they should learn this now, before they have occasion to take an action whose consequences may be monumental, however “good” their intentions (like, oh, carelessly playing with the serious chemicals in my advanced chem lab class.)
Some students learn it, some don’t. I suppose that the latter group waits to learn it the hard way, later in life when they tangle with the FBI or the IRS, or, even worse, a commercial airline.

But can she afford a pardon?
Giuliani associate told ex-CIA officer a Trump pardon would ‘cost $2m’ – report

Trump’s power to provide pardons ends on the 20th. This will be before his impeachment trial. So if granting pardons because they followed his orders affirms his guilt, he seems very unlikely to do so.

Ryan is trying to give the impression that she was on the Capitol grounds, but did not enter the building. But some reports say she entered, and posted the video proving it, which she later deleted.

I think someting like this has the potential to become the signature sign-off for Trumpists / Right-wingers everywhere. Their version of Cato’s Carthago delenda est, they could conclude every speech or statement by saying they deserve a pardon.

There’s something about the sheer desperate venality that is almost amusing.
Wait, isn’t bribery itself illegal?
(“What are they gonna do, impeach me a third time?”)(“No, they’ll charge you after you’re out of power”)(“I’ll get Mitch to tell ’em that’s divisive”)(“Mitch is pissed at you too”)(“Look, shut up. Power of positive thinking. 2 mil cash can get me pretty far in some places without extradition treaties”)
Isn’t soliciting a bribe also illegal? (Speculatively, the aide says: “My commission is 5% and, oh yeah, a pardon. And a ticket to a nice place without extradition treaties.)
Now I’m thinking that some hard looks into cash flow should be taken with regards to all of those pardons Trump made earlier — some of them were for some very wealthy people. Yeah, sure, Trump probably did it to piss off the libs, but why not pull in some dough-ray-me as well? Grifters gonna grift.
DrVanNostrand says
Does anyone else think Rudy is submitting outrageous legal bills to Trump so he can trade them for a pardon? I mean, even Rudy is smart enough to know he’ll never get paid. But a pardon costs Trump nothing, and would definitely “own the libs”. Sounds like Trump’s kind of deal.

Suggestion to the impeachment prosecutors: call this woman to testify before the Senate. Even the Republicans would have a hard time denying the incitement charge after hearing from her and a few others like her.
Let her off lightly in exchange for full and honest testimony.
