As usual, it takes the comics pages to remind me that today is Father’s Day, a marketing device to get people to buy pointless gifts that their fathers will probably hate but will feel obliged to feign delight at receiving and even, if it is an item of clothing, to wear. I long ago made it clear to my children that the best Father’s Day gift to me would be to never buy me a gift for it. They never do, showing to me that my contempt for its purpose has been effectively communicated. I don’t like the peculiar concept of ‘roasts’ either but found this cartoon funny.
But moving on to politics, here are two cartoons that comment on current news.

…raise the voting age to 65…
Make it 64 and you’ve got a deal.

There is the minor glitch of the 21st Amendment, “The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.” However, it neglects to define year, or how age is measured, or even what older means, plus the nebulousness of “citizen”, so in the spirit of π = 3 legislation, nothing to see here, move along now…
Nonetheless, I rather do like that cartoon!
(As an aside, the “how age is measured” snark is semi-real. Apparently, in S.Korea, there are two systems for measuring a person’s age. One is the “International” system based on birthday, and the other is unique(?) to S.Korea: On the day a person is born, the baby is one year old, and everyone‘s age increases by a year on 1 January (so yes, a baby born on 31 December 2018 is two years the next day, 1 January 2019: South Korea mulls ending arcane age system to match rest of world.)
