It looks like Ben Carson has become the new target of comedians because of the crazy things he is saying. Donald Trump will have to up his game to even higher levels of nuttiness to regain the lead.
First off, Trevor Noah of The Daily Show examined some of the weird things that Carson has been saying and has a plausible theory about what makes him do so.
Larry Wilmore on The Nightly Show also found Carson too big a target to resist.

“Creepy Ol’ Ben Carson” is a perfect name for the guy who turns out to be the villain in a Scooby-Doo episode. I wish we weren’t *living* in a Scooby-Doo episode right now…
On the old ‘arm the citizens’ tack the NRA is full of it.
If a citizen is armed and trained enough to be effective they are called an army. Face it, the whole Minuteman thing is a lie. Washington, immediately after the revolutionary war was faced with a rebellion. What did he do to put the rebellion down … wait for it … he sent in an army of regulars, who put down the rebellion pretty quickly. You see, well trained professional soldiers, well equipped, and with good leadership tend to win over part-time soldiers with whatever guns they happen to have laying around.
The WW2 German army, at the height of their efforts to collect Jews, was pretty much dominating the field against armies with other professional soldiers even though they had tanks, artillery, aircraft, and the rest of the accouterments of modern warfare. Entire armies of professional soldiers like the French, English, Norwegians, and Russians were getting their asses kicked.
A smattering of untrained and loosely organized Jews armed with an assortment of hunting rifles and shotguns wouldn’t have made any difference.
The whole Minuteman thing was just good propaganda. A quirky patriotic tale for children. Few historians with an understanding of military matters give the story much credence. Washington, who had used both sorts of troops, sent in regulars to put down the rebellion knowing full well that the locals would be playing out their Minuteman fantasies. Washington knew that the regulars, contrary to the legend, would win against Minutemen.
It is a historic fact that the Minutemen were roundly defeated by the British regulars at every turn. The Minutemen fought bravely, and made useful pickets and skirmishers to guard the rear during a retreat, or protect the flanks, but they couldn’t stand toe-to-toe with regulars. When they tried, they died.
The modern battlefield, is even more demanding.
