One of the inexplicable things is the relative popularity of Ben Carson among the Republican presidential candidates. He says the most outrageous things in a calm voice and then when he is questioned about it, he takes on a hurt tone and implies that it is so unfair to focus on his words when you should be admiring him for his surgical skills.
This was on display again around the issue of the use of fetal tissue for research, something that opponents are trying to use to shut down Planned Parenthood, despite the fact that that organization provides valuable health services to women, and in some places is their only source.
It turns out that Carson, who has spoken out strongly against research using fetal tissue from aborted fetuses, has benefited from such research in the past in his own work. When asked about it, he gave a convoluted response in that patented hurt tone. His feelings are easily wounded, it seems.
I don’t think this will hurt him with his supporters despite criticisms of him by fellow candidate and pope-in waiting Rick Santorum. The legendary loyalty of Republican voters will kick in again and they will ignore this new information.
Carson argument is what I call (yah, I am making this one now) Meat Eaters Argument -- “Killing animal is cruel and sad thing, but I am not the one killing it, the butcher does. So all the rectitude and improbity goes to butcher, I am just eating what was sold on market”.
Anti-abortionist ” I am just a doctor buying tissue available in the market, those who does abortion are the one killing the babies”, it’s not a human being, it’s not a baby, it is a fetus, you morons.
I feel like that is offensive to meat eaters. Unlike Ben Carson, most meat eaters at least accept that their actions are the obvious cause and effect of killing animals for food. If not, why would issues for ethical treatment of animals raised for food be a concern?
Carson is a hypocrite because he is anti-abortion, despite making use of the products of abortions. This is only analogous to eating meat if the person is against animal slaughter, but in turn makes use of those animals that have been slaughtered.
Punchline: God doesn’t think he’s a surgeon.
