The return of the Demon Sheep?

Last week Carly Fiorina announced her candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination. I did not follow the ousted chair of Hewlett-Packard’s effort to unseat Barbara Boxer for the US senate in 2010, a race that she lost handily. So I missed the fact that in her primary race against fellow Republican Tom Campbell, she ran an unintentionally hilarious attack ad against him, the one that has come to be called the Demon Sheep ad. It truly deserves a spot on any list of memorable campaign ads.

I hope she comes up with similar ads in her quest for the presidency because we need a few good laughs during that depressing spectacle. But given the increasingly crazy field on the Republican side, even something like the Demon Sheep ad may not stand out. I am sure that someone else will outdo her.

Why does the opening of that video remind me of Monty Python?

Take home message: if you want to run on the Republican ticket, pretending to be a sheep is the way to go.

This would make a great campaign song:

‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.

He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.”

    Baaaa! Baaaa! Bah!
Was she fiscally conservative when HP was losing millions?
And she’s pretty much the LEAST nutty of the Republican candidates.

“Other than that she’s rich and presided over HP’s disintegration, what’s her qualification? “Epic fuck up”?”

    Epic fuck up indeed.
But true to conservatives once they get above a certain level, gravity reverses, and in return for tanking HP and firing 30,000 employees, she got a $20,000,000 golden parachute and ‘fail up’ and fuck up at the same time.

Unknown Bernie Sanders sweet honey money with progressives like didn’t lost long. How come you too made a mistake Mano ? Sorry, but you wasted your money for supporting him. He is just another Apartheid supporter.

Mmmhh Bernie Sanders, Supposedly Liberal Hero has a big baggage or skeleton in his closet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPVKSiTmU8s

  5. Holms says

Your point being that he is not perfect? No one claimed that he was, only that he is a long way better than any other of the current crop of hopefuls. How many of them are even more pro-Israel / anti-Palestine?

  6. atheistblog says

There you go, we are back to same S%$^ all over again, he is not perfect candidate, but, blah blah blah. Yah, that’s exactly what Hillary supporter saying, that’s exactly what obama worshipers are saying. When Bernie Sanders can say that isis is muslim world’s problem, they have to clean up their crap, it’s not US’s problem, why do US have to support apartheid state ? How come 1st amendment doesn’t apply when it comes to foreign policy, how come US insist on the rest of the world not accept the state of israel but a Zionist state ?
If US support of atrocities of apartheid state is not important concern for you, can I say low wages, women’s right, gay rights, religious freedom doesn’t concern me, but foreign policy and gun control does, so then there is no difference between bernie sanders and hillary clinton and republicans.
I prematurely supported bernie sanders, I am not gonna support him unless he changed his position to the position of progressives.
There is no difference between Hillary and Sanders in their foreign policy.
Why do we have to close our eyes and support your candidate when it comes to foreign policy ?
My consciousness is won’t allow this, I didn’t vote for obama in 2012 for the same reason, I voted Green Party, I will do it again.

I don’t how come any progressive would support Bernie Sanders, he is just same on this issue as Hillary clinton, you are supporting the humanity when it comes to labor, min wage, income inequality, he call it not as political issue but a moral issue, fine, but how come he exempt humanity to Palestinian people ? Would he support 1967 border and stopping all encroachment and removing post 1967 settlement, not to demand Palestinian and arb world to support not just state of israel but Zionist state ? I don’t know how come any progressive would support a guy who says apartheid state is not a moral issue, Palestinian have no human rights. Just beyond mind boggling. Go away bernie, you are no better than hillary on this issue. If you want a exempt on this for him, why shouldn’t accept hillary supporters asking exempt on whole lot other issues ?

  8. atheistblog says

Now I am digging what are his foreign policy, he “Voted NO on cooperating with India as a nuclear power.” but is there an exempt on Israel ? Isn’t it called as Hypocrisy ?

He rejected “calling on the United Nations to rescind the Goldstone report, formally known as the UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, which accused the Israeli government of targeting Palestinian civilians.”
He supported “reaffirming the commitment of the US to a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and calling for a US veto of any UN resolution on Palestinian statehood without a settlement. ”
He doesn’t support 1967 border, voted yes “supporting Israel in maintaining defensible borders, and against Israel returning to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967”
Voted No on “The Birthright Citizenship Act, limiting citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants born in the US. ”

I am not buying Bernie sanders goods unless he clear these.

    Am I understanding this right?

The chewing sheep is supposed to be the narrator. Right?

  10. Mano Singham says

    Hoosier X,

To be quite honest, I am baffled by what the Demon Sheep represents. There seems to be no way to interpret it that is not problematic. If it represents her opponent an evil presence pretending to be a sheep and lurking among unsuspecting sheep, then she is describing her party members as being like sheep, which is not very complimentary.

  11. Trebuchet says

It’s the old “wolf in sheep’s clothing” thing, accusing her Republican opponent of being a liberal in conservative clothing.
