John Malkovich is one of the most interesting actors around, willing to take on a wide range of characters, thus ensuring that he is impossible to typecast. In yet another weird departure from the norm, he appears in a series of iconic photographs where his carefully posed image replaces that of the main character in it. Photographer Sandro Miller explains that this project was his way of paying homage to the great photographers who inspired him.

Here is one where Malkovitch replaces the woman in the famous depression-era photograph by Dorothea Lange of a migrant worker mother. At a casual glance, you cannot tell the difference.

Clearly many, many hours have gone into re-creating the scene to closely match the original and the fact that Malkovich was willing to go through heavy makeup sessions to get close to the original speaks to his quirky sense of what is worth doing.

The other photos are well worth seeing too. The Marilyn Monroe one is a real hoot.
