Via Rich Juzwiak, I came across a video (click on the link to see the video) of people talking about their creationist beliefs. It provides an interesting case study of how, if you create a closed conceptual system, you can convince yourself that it is all consistent and hence true.
The clip is from an HBO documentary called Questioning Darwin that was apparently shown last night. Here’s the trailer.
Sad and scary.
Here’s Jason Rosenhouse’s take. He was actually interviewed for the program.

I didn’t watch the program, not having HBO, but Jason’s review had one interesting tidbit. One of the fundis interviewed stated that if he found somewhere in the bible that 2 + 2 = 5, he would accept that as true. Tells you everything one would want to know about the mentality of these dimwits.
Re #3
I would be willing to bet that this same noodlebrain thinks that pi = 3.
Re #3, #4
He might even think Adolf Hitler was called Frankenberger!
OT: I’m unable to comment on the “Seriously flawed artists” thread, but can do so here. Mano, any idea what the problem is?
I’ll have to look at HBP for that. I’ve been involved to varying degree with fighting creationists for a long time. Since high school, if truth be told. That’s kinda sad.
@5 Nick Gotts: Now, now, we shouldn’t be so hard on
slc1colnago80The Lesser Horplesnooter of Drax*. Even when it’s really, really funny.* I heard he had a relative who was the Greater Horplesnooter of Drax somewhere in his family tree, so it’s a legitimate name, and you’re an anti-Semite if you say otherwise.
Re Scottish schmuck @ #5
Yawn.
@Nick,
I am not sure what the problem is. It may have been a temporary glitch because we had had some site issues recently. Can you try again and let me know if it persists?
#10,
There seems to be something the site doesn’t like about the particular comment I was trying to post (I was able to post a test comment), but I don’t know what. I don’t get any message that it’s gone into moderation or anything. I’ll try rewriting it and let you know if I discover what the problem is.
@Nick,
If the problem persists, please send me the comment to my email so that I can try and figure out the problem might be.
