I need to take a break from my obsessive coverage of the whistleblower story so I thought that I would take a look at the insanity that lies behind some of the opposition to Obamacare.
Under Obamacare, states have the option of expanding the number of poor people eligible to receive care under Medicaid, with the federal government picking up most of the bill. This would be a boon for many people. But governors of many states, all Republicans, have chosen not to accept this offer because they do not want to have anything to do with anything that might make Obamacare more acceptable, even though they are spiting their own people. Of course, they do not say so directly, manufacturing other reasons for their rejection.

Wanna bet that the legislators in TN behind this are on the congressional health care plan?
Since they are STATE legislators they’re almost certainly not on the congressional health care plan. That being said, I suspect the state of Tennessee gives them a much more generous health care plan than what they plan for th uninsured.
Hey, what’s the problem, the uninsured don’t contribute megabucks to the campaign war chests of the governor or state legislators so who cares about them. End snark.

Undoubtedly. Isn’t it funny how the people who complain the loudest about government handouts never refuse them?
I’m just glad they didn’t bring in banjos or portray the average citizens as dummies in this piece. The lawmakers are dummies, sure, but there are ordinary folks who have some sense around there.
P.S. I had to rely on TennCare in an emergency situation years ago when I was in graduate school and had no health insurance. I’m glad I wasn’t subjected to the phone lottery then!
