Jonathan Chait writes that the opponents of same-sex marriage see the writing on the wall, that they have lost the battle in the public mind and likely in the courts too and that some of them are now looking for ways to change their stance without looking too opportunistic while others want to avoid being targeted as bigots.
Even Rush Limbaugh seems to have given up and now worries about the damage this will do to the GOP because if they continue to oppose same-sex marriage, they will lose public support, especially among the young, while if they embrace it, their evangelical bases may abandon the party and that is one group they cannot afford to lose.
Stephen Colbert points out that Bill O’Reilly and others are also trying to hide their past strong opposition and act like they were always ambivalent about this issue.

Within a couple of years, if not sooner, Limbaugh, O’Reilly et al will be bragging about how they worked to promote same-sex marriage and it was the evil liberals who wanted to deny people equal rights.
