Myths and legends at local colleges

A gargoyle juts out from the west side of the steeple on the Amasa Stone Chapel of Case Western Reserve University, photographed on Thurs. Dec. 13, 2012. Angels like the one at right decorate the other three sides of the steeple. The myth is that the gargoyle was placed on the west side facing the campus of Case School of Applied Science because school founder Leonard Case was an atheist. (Thomas Ondrey/The Plain Dealer)
